At Britney Spear’s wedding guests were divided into pimps and hos. A hint of irony maybe, but quite how Britney and her husband will explain that oddity of late twentieth popular culture when their children look at the wedding photographs…

I can see reasons, why the pimp became a hip hop icon, but I’ve always been a bit nonplussed as the why this was accepted so unquestionally by mainstream culture. A dangerous fusion of political correctness and racism essentially.

If there’s a nastier profession than pimp, I can’t think of it.

I’d like too see a film, not a police procedural, not a vigilante actioner, not a liberal crusading lawyer does good film, but a Boyz N The Hood or a Baby Boy that does right by those hos.

Am I the only one who wants to through something at the TV at every a look at me and posse of pussy hip hop video comes on.

I maybe doing Hustle And Flow a disservice, after all DJ's decided on a career change and he doesn't whup his bitches, he only throws them out on the street, but I guess I'm just not in the mood to be accommodating

Levy? For what? The Man?

Bana and Howard are definitely two of my Blanche noms. The third is still up for grabs. Maybe Hoffman, maybe Ledger, maybe (probably) Gyllenhaal.

but I figured the film was mentioned enough times here - but he isn't very well known (although I imagine there are a number of Third Rock From the Sun fans out there)

Ganz - is short for Bruno Ganz - in case anyone's wondering

Bruno Ganz for Downfall? If so, I keep coming back to the same question: The film was part of LAST year's Oscar nominations, but has come up in some of THIS year's lists.

I'd love to include it for this year's Blanches if enough of us saw it in '05, or saw it at all. The film was fantastic and Ganz may get my Best Actor vote over the rest.

The Constant Gardener was an excellent film with a very strong story that, unfortunately, featured a leading man who should never be allowed near an attractive woman. Fiennes simply cannot pull off sexual chemistry.

Oh I thought Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas had a nice smouldering thing going in The English Patient - but i know i;m one of those weirdos that loved the film

regarding Ganz - whatever is decided is fine - i have a number of deserving best actor nominees to choose from (its the other acting categories - I'm coming up short in)

Quick question - would people consider Rachel Weisz supporting or lead actress in The Constant Gardner

All the official voters seem to consider her supporting. For that matter, so do I, but that's just my opinion. More to the point, she won the supporting Golden Globe and is well on her way to winning the supporting Oscar.

I'm due to watch Hustle & Flow soon........

Jeremy........I loved Baby Boy and appreciate your comments on the glorification of hos and pimps. I remember the 5th grade boys where I taught calling themselves pimps.......don't think the girls were calling themselves hos though. The school librarian was offended by the show, Pimp your Ride.
