Befade -- And no, I've never seen Holy Girl but as I am trying to play catch up with Almovodar's films I certainly plan on it. |

First, there's weird antagonism and minor dust-ups between Lorne and Marantz.
Then I hear on the news that two Chinese students were gunned down at a karaoke hall in Ottawa. (karaoke can be pretty annoying, but that's far too extreme).
Last night, I watch a movie and the Canadian team triumphs in a game called Murderball.
Just what the hell is going on up north, eh?!? |

I wrote about The Holy Girl, "She turns to the man who has commited a subtle sexual assault against her. Saving him is the ticket."
Lorne...........You disagreed. What did you think? |

Quote: a sweet 16-year-old virgin who develops an unhealthily obsessive relationship with country doctor Jano (Carlos Belloso) after he gropes her in the street.
Befade - Shit! I totally forgot this pivotal scene! Yes, that would certainly count as a weird advance. I did find it odd that the roles later reversed and it became more about the girl's obsession; maybe that's why his earlier action slipped my mind. |

Around this time last year, with nothing planned for Xmas / New Year's, I bought Egyptian Cinema Classics, a five-"box" DVD set of Egyptian films featuring Omar Sharif, 'Umm Kulthum, Naguib Mahfouz, and others. (It was actually five DVDs in an envelope, but that was fine.) It turned out to be very, very good - much better than I was expecting - and I lucked out on the viewing order I picked, as well.
So this year I'm looking to do the same thing. Anybody have any ideas for holiday viewing?
Maybe that Greta Garbo box - but that's not quite what I was thinking... |

Well, I just picked up The Tarzan Collection DVD set, with the first six Weissmullers. (All with Maureen O'Sullivan, I believe.) So that's going to be part of my holiday viewing. |

When I was a kid, Lex Barker had taken over as Tarzan and Weissmuller was Jungle Jim. |

I remember Jungle Jim. When I was a kid, one of the TV stations ran something called "Jungle Theater" on Saturdays. I saw lots of Tarzan, Jungle Jim, and Bomba the Jungle Boy movies.
Our local TV station ran a creature feature on Friday nights. However, they had only two movies: Them! and Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, so they alternated them from week to week. (To this day, there are parts of Them! I have memorized.) After a year or so, they shelled out for Queen of Outer Space, so we only had a repeat every three weeks. This is probably what made me the warped, twisted individual I am today. |
