Way back when...when Shirley Anne and I were very early in our relationship, she was going to see The Way We Were with some girlsfriends. We made a date to meet at a coffee shop after the movie. When she came in and sat down and I asked her how the movie was, she replied, "It was awful."
It's on TCM now and if you can hear me Shirley Anne, "You were too kind!" |

Ghulam,
I had a blast at War Of The Worlds. Yes, I agree with Ehle that the Stupidity Quotient was high, which did compromise it somewhat, but I won't pretend I didn't enjoy myself.
Can't quite understand how the adjective, "Boring", could be applied. |

| Melinda and Melinda has two alternative plots which is no advantage, and neither story is fully satisfactory. Nevertheless no Wood Allen movie is a waste of time. The characters are real, the situations are mostly believable and the dialogue still has its neurotic charm. Will Ferrell plays the Woody Allen character, and everyone speaks Woody Allen lines. Ratha Mitchell and Chloe Sevigny are very good. The group of writers who make up those two strory lines are shown eating dinner in Pastis Restaurant at 12th St and 9th Ave, where we celebrated my daughter's birthday last spring, most probably at the same table. |

No Woody Allen movie is a waste of time.
Guess you've never been subjected to Hollywood Ending or The Curse of the (Can't Remember). |

Also, I'm a fan of Clerks. Very funny movie done a seriously limited budget, withessentially one location.
That list of 50 Indie films seemed to go for the obvious and successful. Not a very daring list at all. |

| I didn't think Curse of the Jade Scorpion was completely worthless, though I agree with Billy's basic point that Allen has made some completely forgettable films. Among others, I hated Bullets Over Broadway, which garnered hosannas upon release. |

| Bullets Over Broadway is actually the last Woody Allen movie I really enjoyed - the exchange between Rob Reiner and John Cusack about sex & economics is endlessly amusing to me. |

| Anne Rice was totally disaproving of the choices made for Interview and after having read the book so was I. Louis was a wolf killing hunk in the book not some pansy looking joy boy. I have never thought Cruise should have been in any movie I've had the misfortune to have to ignore him in, with the exception of WOTW. I laughed out loud when he didn't check the fridge even more when he tried to relate to Miss Fanning to finally cast him as a complete dolt was the best job of type casting I've had the pleasure to watch. |

You know, I'd have to agree. When I was visiting my son and his wife for Thanksgiving.....they had M & M on tap...........I said I'd already seen it. Well, I sat through it a second time...........glued to the screen......and I didn't think it was that good the first time! |
