My top four movies of 2003 were Whale Rider, In America, School of Rock and Holes, all of which have excellent performances by children.

I think the warding them off with crosses is pretty self evident.

Self-evident of what? How does this make the Catholic Church entwined in the vampire mystique?
Other vampire repellents:, garlic, wearing a necklace with an iron nail, putting iron shavings under the cradle. Or scattering seeds on the ground. The vampire becomes so involved with counting them, that he's still counting when the sun comes up. Somebody tell Sesame St.

According to James Twitchell, who wrote a great book on modern horror called Dreadful Pleasures, the Church was singularly responsible for keeping the vampire myth alive. Vampire folklore existed in a lot of places, and the bite-siring-vampire element was useful in explaining the (alternative) benefits of transubstantiation. Don't know if this is true or not. But Twitchell's book is great.

There are so many implausible things I'm not even going to begin listing them, but you try going into a beautiful suburban home and have a whole scene of "we have nothing but peanut butter and bread and condiments". Uhm, hello? Look in the fridge.

Yes, the refrigerator thing totally blew the whole movie for me. It made me feel that Cruise's character was a complete idiot, and I started rooting for the Martians (or whatever) to munch him. (Just had to sit through this film again, after a friend got a copy. Sigh.)

Your avatar is still much too big.

I agree with Gary. Shane's avatar is intrusive. In fact they whole avatar thing is kind of goofy. It takes up space. Seeing them over and over again becomes boring and somewhat distracting. They're cute I guess. I hate cute. I'm getting rid of mine.

actually, the avatar does help you identify the person posting. So, they do serve a function.

Hi, mo! Good to see your avatar showing up again.

I saw that Yahoo was doing that. Sounds like you can choose one from a selection of silly cartoony ones, but not post your own. Too bad.

I could change my name to make it six, but "Mancy" just doesn't do it for me.

Just so you know - this is as close as you've come to sounding cranky.
