Quote: augmented by supportive noises from the formerly "alternative" Elvis Costello
Last I read, Costello is pro-file sharing. Above the FBI Warning on his new record, there's a note saying something to the effect of "the artist does not endorse the following..." |

Aside from the resiliently-splendid Rosa Parks, I am in mourning for one of my favorite bands, Low. Zak Sally has announced that he no longer wants to be the bassist for them. |

Sorry to hear that about Low. But I know that Alan was having problems of a variety of sorts, and in a tight-knit trio (with two of the members married to each other), the personal dynamics have gotta be difficult to manage over the course of decades together. I saw Low probably ten times, in venues ranging from the basement of Evans Hall at Carleton College, to the Somerville Theater in Massachusetts, to the Viscount Ballroom in Portland, and they have built cumulatively one of the most impressive bodies of work in modern rock. If they are over, it's a shame. |

There's already a replacement, Matt Livingston, but I didn't recognize his name. I also understand that Zak wasn't the first Low bassist, however, he will always be their bassist to me. |

shannon, if Costello has managed to insert that "Stop Press" addendum to the U.S. release of "The Delivery Man", I welcome it. However, for the record, our Declan did lend his name to a RIAA sermon on the "dangers" of downloading in 2003. |

Macca00, did you hear from Dylan's people? So far I haven't heard from Cohen's people. When I hear from his and you hear from his, our people will talk. |

Macca..marantzo
You guys are doing a better job of schmoozing the industry than most of the real life schmucks I have to deal with on a regular basis.
My friend Evan is always repeating a phrase I used to have and saved on my answering machine back in the early 90's when I got a call from a music industry exec.
And it goes a little somethin' like dis:
"Phil...Marv..call me."
Second day's message: "Phil...Marv...I have a great idea about how we can "spruce-up" the act."
Third days message: "Phil...Marv...call me"
I get it Marv..you want me to call you. You want me to make a change in my lifelong dream of being a creative and hopefully original musician. The only problem is (as anyone in the arts will tell you) when you finally do call the idiot back he's indifferent at best. Acts as if he never made mention of completely overhauling and reworking your work. Assholes all, I would suggest anyone do anything OTHER than try to compete in this ridiculous biz !
To this day any time my friend wants to get me to smile he just says: "Phil...Marv" It seems to do the trick. |

Thanks for the reminder of the new Sinead album, ehle. Always have liked her albums, starting with "The Lion and the Cobra"

I missed it last night. I'll have to watch tonight and the rest of the week.
Was he good?
