It's niced to know that some people think it is right to tell veteran's that they can't smoke in their own clubs and that charity bingo games can't allow smoking and bars and poolhalls are banned from allowing smoking. It's all right for the Veterans clubs to srart closing their doors because no one goes anymore and there is less money raised for the Veteren's amputee programmes, and bingo charities are now non-existent, and the little hotels that counted on their bar business to survive have gone broke nall over rural Manitoba. You're right Syd, it's worth it so that on the off chance you visit one of these places, you won't have your little noslrils offended. And don't bring up that second-hand smoke canard because it is far from proven.
I accepted a ban on restaurants. It was just a meal and I could abstain or step out into the cold and have a drag. Didn't like it, but it was a minor inconvenience. When they started invading places that were know to have the type of people who smoked then it was a fucked up fascist action disguised as for the betterment of society. It's bullshit and will never be anything else. |

And you're saying all those places closed because of non-smoking rules??? Bingo halls would be thriving if people could smoke? You sure you wanna' be sticking your flag on this particular hill?
As to the veterans... what about the ones that don't smoke? What about the ones with asthma that can't be around those meetings because of the pollution? I guess smokers are the only ones that feel they can use that 'personal choice' argument.
And as to secondhand smoke, if you absolutely refuse to accept a mountain of medical evidence then no fact on Earth will convince you. I won't even try. Your faith in the inviolability of the holy cigarette is like a religious belief. |

What evidence, beyond circumstantial? And while I could maybe accept the argument that someone who lives with a family of smokers or works eight hours a day in a smoke filled atmosphere might be susceptible, the idea that a couple of hours in a bar or bingo game will put the "c" in you strikes me as fairly ludicrous.
I think we're so frightened by what we don't know about cancer (and I think that's a lot), that we jump at every possible cause. There was a whole scare over cel-phones and cancer a few years back. |

ATTN All NYCers:
I just got off the phone with lady_w and we were trying to plan the Batman Begins IMAX outing. We're thinking either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights. If anyone's available those days and would like to attend, let's try and get a consensus on the best night. |

I wonder about AA mtgs. I can't imagine 12-steppers without their smokes and caffeine.
Since an AA mtg. is PRIVATE...can you smoke?? |

I think our 50 guests might have had something to do with the Tom Cruise posting I started. Sorry. |

Speaking of Tom Cruise and Katie, I'm glad to read that they haven't set a date yet.
Tom called her MAGNIFICENT. He always comes up with these quotes for his women. OK, Katie. I sure do hope you ARE MAGNIFICENT. 26 and MAGNIFICENT.
He says I LOVE THIS WOMAN (never I'm IN LOVE with this woman). That was a quote on Leno about Penelope. There IS a difference.
Another listserv I'm on posted a photo of Katie with Tom - true heights. She's a good 3 inches taller (probably in low heels??).
OK - it's none of my business I know - I just don't want to see Katie get her heart broken.

Sorry Syd, I mixed you up with the guy whose orifices and hair and clothing seems to get get infected by smoke within a 40 foot radius and endangers his life and ability to accomplish his 5 mile run every morning before a breakfast of wheat germ and tofu extract. |

Fuck Katie and her heart. Why would any thinking person give a shit about people who are filthy rich and live in a fantasy world? |
