We prefer to just let the puke dry up, while we discuss it for a few days ... then just vacuum it up later. |

There is (at least in economic theory) - it's called an externality. Some don't recognize it / misinterpet it when they see it, and others choose not to pay attention. (Reasons why: insert game theory here.) Plus it's usually the theorists who factor in that stuff, not the practitioners.
Soderberg's approach isn't necessarily a loss: if the teen boys gravitate towards the DVD market, there's still money to be made in tickets, but other demographic groups will more likely get a voice (because you can only sell them the DVD once, but that butt could be worth 5 tickets sold). But I don't think the teen boys will stay home: sometimes they just want to get away from the parents, after all.
And lunch was really really bad - the Thai chicken salad had everything but the chicken (and we won't discuss the "mango smoothie"). |

lady_w -- I'm still waiting for the S-Man to make up his mind about next Saturday. If you wanna just get our tix and let him take a chance @ the box office (if he decides to go) that's cool with me. Lemme know. |

Okay - I'll get the tickets tomorrow.
Tell him I said PLEEEEEEEEASE!!! and I'll do something nice for him (have no idea what yet).
Tell him that given the movie hasn't been seen in 75 years, and never in this form, he might want to decide pret-ty quickly. |

Marilyn & Lorne:
I think Lorne hit on why I don't regard Soderbergh's attemps as necessarily disastrous to the movie theatre industry, which was also supposed to be killed off by television and the VCR.
I don't think Soderbergh's idea is any more threatening to the theatre industry than free downloads made available by Pearl Jam are to the recording industry. |

Mr B,
But downloads are, to me, a bad comparison. Music is essentially a private experience, anyway. No one waits to go to a concert to hear the latest music from their favorite band, and though the communal experience of a concert is great, it is not the primary venue through which most people enjoy their music. The difference between going to the store to buy a CD and then listening to it at home is pretty much the same as going to your computer, downloading it, and listening to it at home.
On the other hand, movies are to a large extent about the buzz, going to see what everyone has been talking about, and the communal experience is much more essential (though not completely essential). Plus, just on a technical level, the sound quality of a download and a store bought item isn't the same as the technical difference between a big screen, larger-than-life image and a DVD, even on a wide-screen t.v. You're hearing the same movie, but the various movie experiences only to a certain extent approximate each other. |

Somehow, I'm more disappointed Bruce wanted to get into bed with Starbucks than that they won't hock his merchandise. |

Does anyone know if Earl ever fixed his computer? I wanted to e-mail him (not sure I even have the right address anymore), but don't know if he'll get it. |

The main thing that worries me about Kingdom Of Heaven is Orland Bloom's ability to carry a big film. A sensitive soul maybe, but he's no Chuck. |

I just received this e-mail:
Quote: Remakes
Lets make some decisions and do it next Thursday, 12th May.
Right, we're down to a shortlist of four:
1. Yo Jimbo & A fistful of dollars or last man standing
2. Assault on Precinct 13
3. wings of desire & city of angels
4. The Ladykillers
So pick one, the one with the most votes gets it.
Please note I have all of the above apart from Yo Jimbo and the ladykillers (original B&W version), so I will need time to get them if necessary.
See, it's more exciting than Pop Idol (don't bet against Assault on Precinct 13). Sorry if your suggestion didn't make the cut. |

jeremy: Bloom did fine in the role. There are also fine performances by Liam Neeson and Jeremy Irons, among others. Martin Csokas as Guy de Lusignan seems odd until you read about the historical character. Yes, he really was a blustering fool who did pretty much what they show here. |
