Ehle,
I am sorry to have to say that in coming across the previous post of yours, which led to my apology to you up above, I also came across your new tag-line, which really calls for separate comment from me while I am here.

I read your tagline as being directed at all Christians, and possibly even at any believers in the Bible in addition to Christians.

I think you should be told that not all Christians share the views that you seem to impute to them. I for one am a believing Christian who happens also to believe in legalizing gay marriage, so I think I am probably as liberal and tolerant as anyone in this forum, and possibly even moreso than some.

So, allow me to say that your tagline, in its ignorance of the diversity among Christians, borders upon bigotry in denouncing all Christians as a single group. IMO!

Please also allow me to state my view that, in its ferocity, your tagline borders on what has come to be called "hate speech." Again IMO!

Finally, I just find your expression to be incredibly vulgar and rather below your dignity.

Now let me try to include two links for reference (this doesn't always work), in case anyone thinks my use of the words bigotry and hate speech are harsh.

http://www.answers.com/hate+speech&r=67

and

http://www.answers.com/topic/bigot&method=6

PLEASE NOTE: My comments are directed at the CONTENT of your tag line, not necessarily at you personally. But If you are personally offended, then please allow me to ask you to consider how Christians might feel in reading your tagline. If you feel that your tagline constitutes free and protected speech, then by all means carry on as you do. However, it still seems to be below your dignity IMO!

Still apologetic for Corduroy,
But unwilling to let your religious slur pass,
Sorry,
Charles

Hello burritoboy. Not having any pioneer allegiances to the film mail-houses I gotta say I much prefer Greencine. I have approx. 350 films in my queue there which makes it pretty damn easy to see a killer movie a few times a week.

Unlike others I have heard talk about it...I have no problem with US Mail speed from San Fran..I get my Greencine flicks within 3-5 days on average.

My latest Greencine viewings: Cold Mountain; Fannie and Alexander; Jules and Jim; Spring, Summer, Fall, etc.; Nashville; Secret Agent; Knife In The Water and student films by Polanski; Diary Of A Chambermaid; Steal This Movie; Closely Watched Trains; The Bride Wore Black

If you see a pattern with Jeanne Moreau films my wife "the expert" and I are having our own little Moreau-fest.

Hard to go wrong with Jeanne Moreau - perhaps the greatest actress (along with Deneuve, Liv Ullman and Anna Karina) of the second half of the twentieth century. Check out Becker's Touchez pas au grisbi, Demy's Bay of Angels, Blier's Getting It Up, Welles' Chimes at Midnight, Losey's Eva, Antonioni's La Notte and many more. If artists as formidable as Bunuel, Demy, Welles, Renoir, Truffaut, Losey and Antonioni all think you're great - it means you're pretty damned great (an understatement, if anything).

Check out Ping He's "Warriors of Heaven and Earth" (2003). I don't think it's that great of a movie - but it is a Chinese Western, set in the distant, dusty desert Western provinces as frontiersmen, outlaws, government marshals, disgruntled army deserters and enemy agents battle over.....well, I won't put in any spoilers, but they battle over a pretty rad mcguffin. No cowboy hats or six-shooters, but nevertheless a very interesting twist on a Western combined with martial arts.

Charles, I really don't know how to respond to your apology. I was disappointed in myself as a moderator. Never once did I say anything about the contributors. That you didn't like the book smarted on a personal level, but never once did I try to get negative opinions "banned" or whatever. That you took my post so personally says more about your feelings of involvement in that particular forum than as me as the moderator. I apologize to you that you feel like you ruined it. I don't think you did, I just think there wasn't enough interest to keep the discussion going and I felt like I tried, to no avail, and that hit me on a personal level. Once again, I reiterate, it had nothing to do with the contributing members. Please don't stop posting here because of something like this.

As for my tagline, sorry you take offense, but it's a song lyric (can't remember which tune) that I found hilarious and quite goddamned relevant in my case. But, if it makes you feel better to accuse me of spreading hate speech, go for it buckaroo.

Burritoboy

My humble apologies. You got the brunt of my frustration with some other people who have signed up and not posted. You certainly have seen a huge number of films. I look forward to your future posts.

BTW, if there are any guests from Milk Magazine here, welcome!

Thai director Wisit Sasanatieng's TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER is a loopy western that is part Hopalong Cassidy and part John Waters and Douglas Sirk. Shot in a candy-colored style with cowboys wearing pastel bandanas and pencil-thin moustaches, TIGER is wonderfully entertaining and gorgeuos to look at. And like most Asian action flicks, it has some scenes of extreme violence.

I would love to see a responsible production of pre-Civil War Kansas and Missouri. John Brown, David Atchison, Jesse James, Quantrill, and others from that fascinating, aberrant time all deserve better big screen treatment than they've gotten.

Watch the Thai Western - TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER. A Western (or should I say Eastern) with a Sirkian flavor.

Burritoboy probably works at Facets. That's the only way he could have access to some of those titles. I intend to hunt him down next time I'm in there and shake the scum out of his bag.

Sorry, I only signed up on Thursday and I spent the entire weekend going to the movies! I promise that I don't really blogwhore, I just put my website into the profile because you folks asked.

I'm all for giving burritoboy a break! Hope you saw some good movies.

Agreed. I'd also love to see a bio made of Frederick Douglas.

Oh, so would I.

Rob - I have never been a particular fan of the western, but I read your essay with pride. I particuarly liked your inclusion of Taxi Driver and Travis Bickle in your analysis. I can see you really examined the question with care. And for that alone you deserve many kudos. Congrats Rob on a well done piece and for stimulating discussion.

Burritoboy - Welcome. I see you've made yourself right at home. And with your knowledge of flim, I know we'll be talking a lot as time goes by.
