| There is a new movie out, "Him" which obviously belongs on a double bill with "Her". Now if there were only a third movie in the sequence, but knowing Hollywood, it would be about giant ants or something. |

| Ha! Possibly the only film ever made featuring father and daughter myrmecologists. Halloween is an optimal time for watching movies that violate the square-cube law. I've been honoring the approach of all spooks eve with a mild binge of old TZ episodes. The series of 156 episodes is sometimes uneven, but the best ones remain timeless classics. |

Them is one of those movies I can watch over and over again. You can get over one aspect of the square-cube law with spiders and scorpions: they have book lungs so they can breath. Though you still have the problem of them walking about. Maybe giant spiders websling like Spider-Man.
I realized to my shock that I hadn't actually seen a 2025 movie, so I decided on December 31 to go to the theater, and now my movie of the year is [drum roll] Zootopia 2. This being a sequel to a movie that didn't really need one, they had to cobble together a plot for it and they came up with a pretty good one: why aren't there any reptiles in Zootopia? Well, Zootopia has weather walls to separate the different type of biomes, and the Lynx who invented them was murdered by snakebite. But did he, and was he? Nicholas Wilde and Judy Hopps are on the case.
I don't think the Zootopia movies have answered the question: if the mammals are sentient and aren't allowed to eat each other, what do the tigers, lions, leopards and lynx eat? Maybe they eat birds and fishes, which don't seem to be sentient. Reptiles now seem to be right out.
One problem with this movie is that although Wilde and Hopps tend to be to rambunctious, to the point the department threatens to break them up, the possibility that they may be too different to be effective partners is raised and is stupid. We see over and over again how effective they are--including how they solved the case in the first movie. I never once believed their personal relationship was a problem.
This is one of those films where so much is going on screen at once that you get the feeling you are only seeing one third of what is going on and you want to rewind so you can see what was happening in the lower left corner of the screen (but then you miss the seals on the lower right.) Yes there are seals, and dolphins, and sea lions and walruses. Especially walruses. I was half expecting them to start saying "goo-goo-g'joob", and they may have, but they were pretty incomprehensible anyway. (I should someday post the lyrics to my song, "The Walrus Sings at Midnight", though he did that 21 hours ago our time.)
Happy New Year! Now back to my binge watch of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, which I recorded most of last summer. |

| By the way, although the singer with the chorus line of tigers was sung by Shakira, it's obvious she is intended to be Gisele since she is, after all, a gazelle. |

Could they still eat mammals which are comatose and with a terminal prognosis? That would qualify as not sentient. A fairly limited food supply, though. NM. |

My best guess is that they are heavily into seafood. There's no suggestion that fishes, molluscs and crustaceans are sentient, but that may be Zootopia 3. |
