I still remember many years ago when I watched Joan one night on the TV (I think it was on the late night Carson show), she made a lot of fun about women getting face jobs. Then I saw her many years later and she had quite a face job.
She was a very good comic. RIP Joan. |

Gary she never made fun of getting plastic surgery. Going back to her guest host days on the Tonight Show, she always said she was determined to look good, whatever it cost, and wasn't ashamed to admit it. |

Thanks, Chilly or Lorne! (Not sure which of you fixed it)
And thanks, Knox!
It's 43 degrees here. These mountain mornings may take some getting used to. My body thinks it's summer, and is confused. |

Yeah, I got Knox's email and tried to respond to both him and you. Both emails bounced -- twice. Ended up fixing it with the fancy-shmancy admin tools. |

Oops. Sorry, my email changed last year. Will update.

Lorne, mystifying. The new em box is correct. Hushmai has obviously pegged you as a dangerous Canadian national. Just try to taint my precious bodily fluids with your toxic maple syrups, see what happens. |

"Gary she never made fun of getting plastic surgery"
Joe, please don't write things that are wrong about me. I don't even know if you were old enough or even born when I saw her joking about it. It was in 1970 or 71.
You decided that she never made fun of women getting face and body treatments, even though you never saw her acts in the 60's and early 70's.
In case you didn't know, she made fun of everyone including herself. |

Gary is right, Joe. Rivers made fun of women who had work done long before she did it herself. And then she made fun of herself. For instance, on her 80th birthday she said, "I'm celebrating my 80th birthday with my 80th face." |

There is some car commercial which has been running very recently, in which she says something about the lights being hot and her face is melting. Which is a pretty hideous image/joke. |

Billy, there should be more people our age on here.
I never thought of this, but it seems everyone I heard talking about Rivers, mentioned that she started women comics on stage. Never considered that. |

She didn't start women comics--that might more accurately be Phyllis Diller--but she paved the way for females to be raunchier than ever in mainstream situations. |

Joan came before Lily, whom I wrote for and performed with. |
