There's a cover story in Vanity Fair this month detailing the history of the production of World War Z that makes it sound absolutely unwatchable and a possibly serious career glitch for Brad Pitt. |

I'm surprised--shocked, in fact--and thoroughly (albeit somewhat perversely) delighted by the fact that The Hangover Part III is a huge bomb at the box office. This may mean there will be no Hangover IV. Sometimes, as Tennessee Williams said, there's God so quickly. |

No audio on the work computer right now. Is being fixed soon and then I watch most eagerly. Figured it was better with audio than those weird Youtube CC's, which seem to churn out stuff like "The blank Plantagenet is deflect the marmalade of a heated penguin by crossbow beatitudes!"
World War Z - and there's the fact that it's really just another fucking zombie movie. Blechhh.
EDIT: Just watched the Abrams spoof. Haha! Leia Borgana! |

Tonight, Gatsby with Earl in 3D (of course Earl is always in 3D, but I mean the movie). Thanks to Betsy, Bart and Billy, I'm kinda stoked but trying to keep expectations down. Seems better to be pleasantly surprised than frustratingly disappointed. |

Just back from Star Trek Into Darkness. I'm happy. I'm glad they rebooted this the way they did, even if some Trekkies are up in arms. |

Saw a 3D movie, but not Gatsby, which was sold out. Saw Star Trek Into Darkness. The beginning is weak and the willingness to raid everything from Butch Cassisdy and the Sundance Kid to Silence of the Lambs to the tradedy of 9-11 doesn’t speak well for the movie overall. And this is still the Muppet Babies version of Star Trek—nearly everyone too young and immature to hold their designated positions. So it’s hard to take them seriously even when we’re meant to. Chris Pine’s Kirk is still the most obnoxious. Anton Yelchin’s Chekov still the cutest. Zoe Saldana’s Uhura still the sexiest.Simon Pegg’s Scotty still the funniest. Zachary Quinto’s Spock still the most successfully imitative. And Karl Urban’s Bones still the best. (I like John Cho and I’m glad with Kumar Kal Penn getting good work that Harold has lucked into a recurring gig as Sulu, but they really don’t give him much to do). We get a pretty decent Khan. Though the solution to the Big Event is too easily telegraphed.
Fortunately, once they get up into space after drama stuff on earth, the witty banter of the first movie is back in place and almost never stops and almost always works. Lines zinging back and forth while star ships zing each other with weaponry is a pretty good way to spend and evening. They even find room for a little philosophy, though nothing that compares with TOS, TNG, DSP or V. Still be grateful for what you can get. The big pummelling match in mid air was kinda dumb, but I enjoyed this entry even more that the first and look forward to the next. |

The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space 9 (typo) and Voyager. There's also Enterprise, but people are trying to blot that out of their memory.
Something I totally missed was that Dr. Carol Magnus was the mother of Kirk's son and was the inventor of the Genesis Device in The Wrath of Khan. |

I liked Enterprise. If I remember correctly I didn't like the war with the Nazi's (i think), but generally I liked it. The character's were all interesting and well acted. I was disappointed when it was canceled. I'm currently very disappointed they they canceled Vegas. A very good show. |

And a (fairly graphic) film about the sexual awakening of 15-year old lesbian won the Palme d'Or. |

YAY! Did Inside Llewyn Davis win anything? Will check.
P.S. Checked. It won the Grand Prix, which I guess is like the red ribbon to the Palme d'or's blue. |

I think that France's age of consent is 14. I read that the 15 year old hooked up with an older woman so the movie might not be allowed in the US. I won't be watching it anyway. I don't even watch young lesbians on the porn sites. Mature women are the only ones that attract me. |

It still made 42 million over the weekend. On the other hand, Fast and the Furious 6 made close to 100 million and doesn't look like a piece of excrement. (I give a film +1 if it has Michelle Rodriguez, which is why BloodRayne cannot be a zero.) |
