Gary, The writers get no credit on that website. And I can't be critical. I slip in a little jab now and then but for the most part must be neutral.
It's a great gig, Marc. Congratulations. But tell me where to access Mirgun's photos. All I see are videos. |

Most of the cool photography is by Mirgun (street art, tattoos, breakfast tacos, BBQ, celebrity photos). She's what makes this site shine. Video footage is shot by me.
http://tapintoaustin2012.com/ I want a breakfast taco. |

Meant to report on John Carter and Footnote.
JC is dull, dull, dull, with a few stretches that are mildly fun. None of the "name" actors (Willem Dafoe, Dominic West, etc.) are remotely recognizable under the makeup, and the leading man, Taylor Kitsch, comes off like a model/personal trainer who has learned his lines phonetically. Snoozeworthy.
Footnote is fine once it finds its style, about a third of the way through. It starts out like sort of a comedy, with snarky graphics and overblown music. But once it becomes more dramatic it's good. It's about a father and son who are Talmudic scholars in Israel; the son is the equivalent of a best-selling novelist, while the father is a mostly unknown intellectual. They compete in ways that would be spoilers to reveal. The movie is very good without being in any way great. |

21 Jump Street is a sometimes-funny sometimes-stupid slapstick take on the old Johnny Depp TV show. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are terrific in the roles of two inept cops who go undercover as high school students to bust a drug ring. Ice Cube is hilarious as their profane boss. It's a lot of fun when it's not really dumb. |

I'll be sure to see that ... the next time I'm 16 years old. |

Funny, but four current movies I plan to see--Chronicle, Project X, Seeking Justice, and Detachment--deal with high school teachers and/or students. |

So far, the 2012 movies i've seen are below average. I hope this rights itself at some point. |

Dolores has spoken, and it looks like tonight's fare will be Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. No high school anywhere around. |

As long as that's not some unholy alliance between Emily Blunt and Richard Brautigan, I'm there. |

As long as there's Ewan McGregor, I want to be there. (If time allows...) |

Billy, Project X sounds absolutely awful. It opened here this week and that's a bad sign because all the worst films open here long before most of the good ones do. e g, Drive opened here this week. |

We actually are staying home tonight and watching movies stream on Netflix. First up, A Little Help, a 2011 comedy-drama with Jenna Fischer. If time permits, it will be followed by the 2010 Edward Norton-as-twins item Leaves of Grass. |

The reviews are wildly mixed. The NYTimes critic Neil Genzlinger gave it a rave, only slightly humorously stating that it should win the Nobel Prize. Other reviews ranged from great to horrible. It's a polarizing experience, obviously, and I want to be there. |

Billy, if you click on the pieces on tattoos, breakfast tacos, street art and almost every post on that site, the photos are all Mirgun's. |
