Hi, Lorne! Glad to hear from you...to put it mildly. My vote is for an asap and possibly truncated Blanche rather than a way late and been-there-done-that (i.e., post-Oscars) Blanche. |

"truncated Blanche"
I'm picturing Brett Somers cut off at the knees.
However, also casting a vote for soon and simple. |

Lorne, I just figured out why you didn't get my PM. I sent it to lorne (the second member on our memberlist) instead of the first member, lshap. Glad to see you back, safe and sound. |

Well, that's a load off! I had checked the Montreal Obits, just to be sure. Don't scare us like that!
If we are going to truncate the Blanches, can we add screenplays to the Six? That and cinematography are pretty much all I really have a clue about anyway.
Though the opportunity to catch the movies on video would be nice. |

Biutiful, Barney's Version, and Unknown just arrived here in podunk, all look interesting, but it's Barney's I've really been slobbering for. Also looking forward to The Adjustment Bureau in a couple weeks -- looks like a paranoid thriller with a soupcon of Philip K. Dick and a dash of Matrix and my favorite Everyman, Mr. Damon. Plus I want to see the chemistry between him and Emily Blunt -- it just sounds so right. As for Unknown, I know it's just a popcorn thriller, vaporware in the old jelly computer, but I just like watching Mr. No Seen Mail open his cans of whup-tush on baddies everywhere. |

At this point, it would be better to do a late ceremony than try to do everything in a week and a half. |

What Syd said. One great appeal of the Blanches is the variety of presenters, which would be inevitably diminished if only the top four or five categories are acknowledged. Even if that's the group consensus, there's precious little time to get nominations together and volunteer tabulators on board. Whereas, if they aren't until April, Third Eye will indisputably have The Last Word on Cinema Excellence in 2010. But, whatever everyone thinks, because it really comes down to how much time our moderator can expend on either/any option. (instashift to Maria Montez) Aye heff SPOK'N! |

In earlier terms, Lorne would undoubtedly have been considered a gentlemen, these days we have to settle for the less precise 'great guy'. Even though he must be sitting at his terminal, shakling his head slowly and, with just a hint of sorrow, thinking, "Chirst, these guys couldn't organise the proverbial piss-up in a brewery on their own," I can't detect a hint of it in his post. I am proud to say I almost know him.
I'm up for whatever consensus emerges. I'd like to do more, but I'm about half as busy as Lorne.
Picking up on an earlier post, I am also full of admiration for Danny Boyle for turning the unpromising premise of 127 Hours, a man spending five days pinned by a rock, into such a gripping and moving film. For me, his is the directorial achievement of the year. |

I like this idea, but also agree with Whiskey about adding the 2 Screenplay categories to those 6. |

Since I've already seen Barney's Version, it would be Unknown I'd be slobbering for--and am, and am going to see it ASAP, hopefully no later than Monday. Taken, the previous Neeson cheeseball, was one of the all-around best popcorn movies in years, and I'm expecting no less from Unknown. |

Lorne,
Welcome back. I'm so glad your absence was for positive reasons, and everything is all right.
My vote is for a later Blanche. But I'm sure that comes as no surprise. I think it would be indeed exciting to do them when we've seen more films. It would be the be all and end all of movie awards. |

Has anyone seen For Colored Girls?
I nearly bought it last night.
But the name Tyler Perry made me change my mind last second.
Er, just checked and it has a 4.5 rating on IMDeeBee.
And is based on a play based on a series of poems.
Sounds extremely avoidable. |

I go for the later and fuller Blanches too.
Of course Lorne took the search for him and the attitude we have that he must do the big job of presenting the Blanches again (as long as he were still alive anyway). He's Canadian. I'm not a model Canadian. |

SPOILER-FREE COMMENTS ON "UNKNOWN"
"Unknown" was, in the words of the couple sitting near me, "not bad." Fun to watch Neeson turn from frightened and confused, to hellbent on righting wrongs. Shadowy conspirators stalk, Frank Langella intones, Bruno Ganz looks sly and foxy, Sebastian Koch looks over his shoulder (all the practice in Das Leben des Anderes certainly didn't hurt), and Diane Kruger has a heart of gold. Add popcorn, the beverage of choice, and look at all the wintry Berlin cityscapes from your warm little chair. |

Skimmed this post for fear of spoilers. Once you assure me there are none I will read in its entirety. Going to see it Monday. |
