Get Him To The Greek is fun throughout with some gutbustingly funny moments. Sean Combs, Russell Brand and Jonah Hill deliver the laughs and some genuine warmth. A welcome diversion from the oil spill and Israel flotilla massacre.

I am definitely checking this one out even though I find Russell Brand off screen to be one of the most distasteful human beings imaginable.

Brand is very funny on talk shows. I loved his description of trying to ride an elephant in India on New Year's Eve--"To an elephant, fireworks are indistinguishable from the Apocalypse."

His autobiography, My Booky Wook, is a blast.

Carol,

Get Him to the Greek has a cameo by Paul Krugman as himself. If that doesn't get you into the theater to see this movie, nothing will.

about what? Are you offended by Brand's sense of humor, prank calls...what exactly?

I have a real problem with prank calls in general. Sometimes they can be hysterically funny, but even then I find them sadistic, sophomoric, mean-spirited, and adolescent in the bad way. In Brand's case, the prank calls were all of the above and more. I find the incident unforgivable.

And this passage from the article sounds like a mini-Polanski deal:

"In the days following the suspensions, a number of celebrities, particularly from television and radio, came out in support of Brand and Ross. Many felt that, whilst the incident was unacceptable, it was not deserving of the strong criticism it received, especially when there were other issues troubling the United Kingdom."

You might as well say, "In view of the fact that we have a horrific oil spill going on as well as a record unemployment rate, what does it really matter if Michael Richards screams 'nigger' on a cabaret stage?"

That said, I assume Brand creates comic mayhem in Get Me to the Greek, and I will definitely be seeing the movie. (I also happen to be a huge Jonah Hill fan.)

For the most part I really liked Splice - very strange, entertaining (& suprisingly funny) and messed up.

Well, this would only be a prank call if he hadn't really slept with the girl. As it is, it's just a rude message. I don't get it, but it sounds fairly Howard Stern-ish.

I will not. Just looking at a publicity still or two creeped me the absolute fuck out.

Okay, I had no idea that Paul Krugman shows up in "Get Him to the Greek." That does intrigue me.

The prank calls seem immature and foolish, but there's a lot of that going around. I've always found Jonathan Ross rather smarmy--never watched more than a few minutes of his show on BBC America.

As father of a 20 year old daughter, thinking about Russell Brand and the prank call...that line from Dan Hedaya in "Clueless" comes to mind, where he's telling a young man that he keeps a gun and a shovel in his car...and that the young man "won't be missed."

Splice does look interesting, and I've heard Brody and Polley do some good work, in spite of what sounds like a pretty conventional ending tacked on. A horror fan is happy for anything that is even marginally above grade B.

The thing about Splice is that according to some reviewers it is anything but conventional. It has me intrigued.
