Thinking the same thing. Was it my imagination, or did his voice also sound affected? Don't mean to indulge in horrible gossip, but it was noticeable and I hope the guy's okay.
In what way, Lorne? |

Lorne,
A lot of forums and online newspapers give the reader the opportunity to 'recommend' a posting they wish to draw to the attention of other readers. The best, earliest, shortest or most controversial posts in a thread tend to attract the most recommendations.
When ever you post, I find my mouse almost instictively moving towards the, alas, nonexistent 'recommend' button. |

I agree, Marj. I shared it on my Facebook feed.
Thank you, Whiskey. |

I was on my way back to NY so I missed the Oscars, but I was hoping on watching it on the plane.I cannot believe that Jet Blue did not show the Oscars.they don't have ABC...When we started a mini riot, we were told that there are 36 channels we can watch.A few of us even wanted to disembark! Coming from Austin, a big movie town, hometown of Sandra Bullock, and they don't show the Oscars?? Who's running Jet Blue? aaaghh..so I couldn't join in all the commentaries.Well, hopefully next time I'll be on the ground. Good night all |

I liked Baldwin & Martin -- Baldwin much better. I've read so many horrible stories about Steve Martin, the person, that I think a lot of it showed and some of it seemed downright mean.
I liked the paired down, elegant set design this year, it seems they've always been so gaudy as of late. I also really liked the former co-workers introducing the top acting nominees.
For the most part I was pleased, not REALLY disappointed in any of the wins and nearly exstatic that Ahbahdah walked away with so few. They probably cleaned up @ the technical awards thingy they have every year.
I thought it was way OTT and cheesy as hell that the orchestra played "I Am Woman" as Babs and Kathryn Bigelow were escorted off the stage, if Lee Daniels would have won would they have orchestrated "Say It Loud!" and. . . James Taylor and Demi Moore's dress should be put in memorium, the interpretive dancing to the Score Noms was absurd, the Horror Flick homage, completely unnecessarry unless you're not convinced that it is SO HARD to be Kristin Stewart, BUT -- Lauren Bacall rocks! |

I find myself in the weird position this morning of feeling annoyed that The Hurt Locker won so many Oscars last night. As the first and most vocal of the supporters of THL here on our forum, I'm certainly fine with its winning the top award, and delighted for Kathryn Bigelow. But the sound awards should rightfully have gone to Avatar, and probably film editing as well. And I would have been very happy if the big A had taken home the big O. It was the most important movie of the year even though THL was arguably the "best." |

I heard a lot of "And the winner is..." instead of "And the Oscar goes to..." last night. Did AMPAS revert to the old way of doing it or did some presenters simply forget? |

The Oscars started out snappy and then droned on and on, with some new ideas that were just awful. Low lights of the night: The ill considered tributes to the major nominees by the people who had worked with them. Tim Robbins was the only tribute worth listening too, and this idea just made the ceremonies drag even more. The big dance number was very acrobatic and well performed, but who needed it? The memorial for the departed was an insult. Demi actually was acceptable (shock), but James Taylor (whom I've hated from day one) and his lugubrious rendition of that great song was the worse mistake in a mistake filled awards show. Presenting a tribute to the recently departed should be done the way it has always been done, with silence, letting the images and audios do the work. The first few and last few were virtually unseen and not heard at all while the camera focused Taylor and Moore. Dreadful.
I enjoyed Martin and Baldwin and wish they had more time. I love Helen Mirren, but who in their right mind doesn't?
They had the Oscars on a couple of channels here, but they had a running Spanish translation so one couldn't really hear what anyone was saying, so I searched the net and finally found a feed that didn't keep shutting down, so I couldn't post any comment on here. If I were any kind of typist I could have switched back and forth and written some quick opinions.
Another bad habit that the Oscars have is using the awful format that late night movies use of splitting the last 20 minutes or so by having commercials every few minutes. Really annoying. I've turned off many movies because of that.
Weeden, Finkle and Fay. I love that trio. |

Excellent wrap-up of the Oscars which agrees with me that the show was the best in years and that Mo'Nique is a thoughtless-at-best lady. ( I think she's low-class in the extreme but still deserved to win.) |

Gary Marantz, on the other hand, exemplifies class. |
