I agree! I doubt I'll see these movies in theaters but I do love Inla and Betsy's take on them. Different strokes makes for a better forum, IMO. And from what I understand these books are selling like wildfire. Now that J.K. Rowlings has stopped writing, this is good news. |

Going to try to go to the movies today or tonight, despite plans for Thanksgiving taking precedence. Four movies are calling desperately to me and the challenge is choosing just one (or maybe two if there's time).

Twilight should be on DVD by now and New Moon is in theaters. That's all so far. |

All told, gromit, there should be 4 films - there are 4 books. They aren't involved enough to require more than one film per book (à la Harry Potter Pts. 7a and 7b)
I'd recommend the books over the films, though...if you niece hasn't read them yet. (ever check out my recommendations in The Reading Room? I've more if you'd like. Let me know, over there...) |

She's still writing books, though - no?
I'm not into Twilight, and I'm quite willing to joke about it, but I'm really not sure there isn't a double standard at work about this (meaning in the press, etc). Everybody has their guilty pleasure; because it's something targeted at teenage girls, it's suddenly invalid? |

| I haven't read "Twilight" yet either, though I do intend to (I wish the paperback weren't so bulky--I read in transit and at restaurants, usually). But it's true that "romance" is considered of lesser quality than "adventure" or "thriller" or such subjects that appeal more to male readers. (I mean, really--who was demanding "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies"? Not women, I'm thinking.) |

As for John Cusack as an action hero, he's not bad. Really. I'm being serious.
2012 isn't unlike a Michael Bay special effects over-the-top destruction movie, but in some ways, it's more watchable. John Cusack actually brings an element of freshness to this world ending movie. Sure, there was some cheese and some "oh, c'mon now" moments, but overall, I was entertained enough to not notice the movie went past the 2 hour 30 minute mark.
I don't know if Cusack should make more action films. Leave that to Matt Damon. |

I liked it, but then again, I like Spike Jonze style of moviemaking. He has a very different way of telling a story. This one brought it to a slightly different level than say "Adaptation" in revealing parts of the characters through other characters. If you are too focused on the main character, you are missing a good part of the story.
WTWTA had some touching moments, but overall, I was so enthralled with all of the other characters besides Max that the story came alive. |
