The third animation nominee (assuming there are just three) should be A Christmas Carol.
EDIT: Oops. I forgot The Princess and the Frog. Looks like four solid nominees and likely only three spots. |

Get back to me after you've seen Mary & Max.
After I finished watching it, I went right back and watched the first 20 minutes again. I nearly re-watched the whole thing, but thought I'd rather let it settle in and two-time it next week. |

Actually, my dislike isn't because of her looks (I've actually never found her gorgeous - more like girl-next-door cute). I will, however, go along with miscast, which is my main beef; the performances I've seen are the ones you mention as not being her best.
I sort of wish you'd *asked* first, though.
Lady--I realize it seemed like I was saying that was the reason you didn't care for her, but I just meant that comment in general. I do think she can be pretty lackluster in the wrong role, as I said. I think she's got a lot of talent, however, when she's cast right. Her scenes with Norman Lloyd in In Her Shoes are amazing, and in There's Something About Mary she has that quality comediennes of the 1930s had--a mix of insouciance, sexiness, and spontaneity. |

The Best Actor list left off Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker and Michael Stuhlbarg in A Serious Man, both of whom have more chance for a nom than the guy whose name I still can't remember in District 9. He was fantastic but Renner and Stuhlbarg were more iconic and memorable.
I also seriously doubt that Morgan Freeman will get nominated as Nelson Mandela. I feel like I've already seen Freeman give that performance in several other films. |

He's gotten nominated for that performance in several other films, too. |

me, too, Trish. I've watched that about 3 times. Would she have been better than Glen Close in Fatal Attraction? |

Diaz was very good in Vanilla Sky (a mediocre movie), and Cruz was very bad (not really her fault). Go figure. |

Jessica Walter already was better than Glenn Close when Fatal Attraction was a better movie called Play Misty for Me.
Still say Eastwood should have sued for plagiarism. |

I also thought Diaz was very good in Vanilla Sky. She makes one scary psycho. |

Well, maybe I'll give her another chance, then.
I really have to figure out if I can pay for access to the Pretty Good Library and deduct it somehow... |

Actually I liked Diaz in Charlie's Angels, too. I don't think I've disliked her in anything. |

If nothing else, Diaz is certainly likeable. She struggles in THE BOX. But, it really isn't her fault. Her character is not well-written. |

Pulling this quote from way back on Aug07...
Marc wrote: I saw THIRST today. I recommend it. Its not in the same league as OLD BOY, but its still exciting film making from Park Chan-wook.
I saw it over the weekend at a Midnight showing and I agree with you that Thirst is good, but not on the same level as Old Boy. Thirst is an interesting exploration of a man's moral beliefs being tested under extreme circumstances. In my search I saw that Lady Wakasa and Wade liked it. And that Befade was thinking of seeing it. I hope she did. Add mine to the list of "recommends" for this movie.
As coincidence would have it, the very next afternoon I saw New York, I Love You. In the end credits of that film, Park Chan-wook is among the couple dozen or so names listed in the "Personal Thanks" section. He didn't direct one of the segments in NY,ILY, so I wonder why they thanked him. Might he be involved in one of the future films in that international project? According to the official website, now that Paris and New York have been done, next up are Rio, Shanghai and Jerusalem.
By the way, I liked New York, I Love You very much. Will try to write more later. Gotta get to sleep soon or work will be a disaster tomorrow. |

My main problem with THIRST is that it kept shifting tone from horror to bizarro comedy. I found that jarring. It did not cast the spell that OLD BOY did.
Billy, have you seen OLD BOY? |
