They hate me and they are cruel. I'm trying NOT to buy movies right now.

I'm afraid I don't understand.

It's the economy, Daffy.

LOL

and sadly all too true...

I know it sucks Gary...but it's kind of a camp classic. I think this person would be amused by it. And she can always "re-gift" it.

But if "Mr. X" is more rare...then that would make the better present.

mo,

Definitely go with The Amazing Mr. X. It's a lot harder to find and more entertaining.

Among the DVD's I'm giving this year are Zuzu, Queen of the Monsters and Pulgasari, a Korean monster movie about a giant bull that eats metal. Neither one goes to Syd, so I'm not spoiling a surprise.

He's in a couple of boxed sets that I'm resisting.

The most impressive box set of the season is "Borzage, Murnau, and Fox." Definitely for the hardcore.

I'm hoping Marc will buy it for his store so I can rent the movies.

Wonder if that is Syd's present???

Shocked

Nope. It's not even my present, though I'd like to give it to myself. (Again, that tanking economy thing.)

I bought a three-in-one DVD today: Herzog's Nosferatu, Jesus Franco's Vampyros Lesbos, and the Aussie 1979 Horror film Thirst (which sucks, I know, but I bought it for the other two).

The vampire movie I still want to see but have yet to track down is the German Jonathan.

Me too, though Phil Hardy wasn't particulary kind to it.

I've never read him. William K. Everson wrote about it intriguingly, but only in passing, in his Classics of the Horror Film.

I have to say, however, that although Butterfield 8 is a simply terrible movie and the victory for Taylor (over MacLaine in The Apartment and Kerr in The Sundowners) is probably one of the most undeserved Oscar wins in history...

...even so, Taylor is at her most breathtakingly beautiful in this movie. She never before or since had (on screen; off is another story) such overwhelming gorgeosity. For this and this alone, it's worth a gander.

And btw IMO she still had very little sex appeal. That chalk-on-the-blackboard voice trumped all the physicality in the world.

Agree that the voice killed her sex appeal.

Maybe she was dynamite when dubbed in Italian.
