I saw it. I'm particularly curious about the behavior of the priest. Perhaps some other Catholics or Lapsed Catholics can weigh in on this, but it seemed to me that, when he gave Peggy the toy at the end and said to her, "For your little one," he broke the seal of the confessional, if not by the letter of church law, then at least the...er...spirit of it.
Plus, he definitely has the hots for Peg. He'd definitely break another of his vows if she gave the go-ahead. |

We don't get HBO up here. Other stations pick a lot of their programmes up. I haven't heard of it though. [/b] |

Well, carrobin and another friend really agree with you Earl. I'm naive enough to think that the priest, played nicely by Colin Hanks, really wanted help with his sermon and presentation. How stupid am I.
Don't anyone answer that!!
I am not a Catholic but will call a friend who is a lapsed one. Funny that he didn't pick up on confessional seal, Earl. He tends to pick up on everything else. 
I also need to watch it again. Usually On Demand airs MM at midnight. Last night they didn't. |

Another wonderful episode. Not only does Father Hanks have the hots for Peg, she has them back.
I was so touched by the scenes between Don and Bobby. That boy is adorable plus. And Jon Hamm is absolutely amazing; the depth and layering of his character is so seamless that he barely seems to be acting, but he is, he is.
And little Sally! What gives? She seems to have inherited her mom's loony side. I see her going to the Woodstock festival at age 14 or so and maybe getting preggers herself. (I just happen to have a friend named Sally who did just that, though at age 18.)
The show is awesome. |

| My wife, who is a Catholic, picked up on what she says is an anachronism. In the confessional, Peggy's sister says "the holy spirit," and Dolores says that wording didn't happen until much later. She says that circa 1962 people said "the holy ghost." Interesting? Any comments? |

| My flawed memory tells me she's probably right. I know as kids in the '50's, the Baltimore Catechism used only the term Holy Ghost, and we would always say the Sign of the Cross with it. The Latin for it is "Spiritus Sanctus", so somewhere in there there was a gradual transition. |

I'll download it tonite. It takes 5 hours on my slow DSL connection. Somehow I thought it was on Monday (not Sun.) night.

| I'm willing to believe that the feelings between the priest and Peggy are merely friendly, but there's a lot of potential in the situation that can't be ignored. (And not being a Catholic, I can't testify to the Spirit/Ghost change, but when I was growing up Southern Baptist, the phrase was Holy Ghost, as I recall.) |
