Wade--thanks bunches. Now my husband says he will quit too, so that really is jazzing my tazz.

Jeremy, no worries mate. Just pulling the Brit chain a bit.

Marc-read your review of The Village, which pretty much sums up my deep disappoint in the film. The one difference being, I usually like M. Night's work. Ms. Howard is so lovely in her person and in her choices, that the film was bearable for me. And there were a few scenes that were effectively and or beautifully framed. Also, MNS(see how I get around the spelling?)has always gotten good mileage from his sound/music creators. Like you, I did bemoan, albeit briefly, the movie that might have been.

Open Water has a few scary scenes, but otherwise it is quite forgettable. Also there seems to be some dishonesty in the initial claim of its being based on a true story, but I will let you decide on that after you have seen it.

Ghulam - Maybe you can forget it. I never will. I believe several people remember the story it was based on, but I don't think it matters whether it really happened or not. It COULD happen, which the millions of horror movies out there could not.

Ghulam,
I hope your opinion doesn't include its beautiful and sparing use of music, which I can't even find another word for: evocative? sublime?

Charles, I have preordered the CD of the soundtrack.

Billy, thanks for the compliment. I'm glad you liked the film.

Marilyn and Charles, I am glad you enjoyed it. I shall give it a second shot when it is on TV.

Marilyn Ditto!

It was based (had to be) on that couple that was lost off the Australian coast. Maybe people will see the movie, and be more aware of what CAN happen!

But I won't go to see it, on either screen. Sad

The director, who was on Letterman, did say it was based on an incident off the Australian coast. (SPOILER) The main part of the movie occurs after the abandonment of the couple in the middle of the ocean. How would anyone know what happened after the abandonment? So the main part is in fact fiction.

Of course it is. That's why it's such a creative imaging of this type of predicament. I believe Kentis wrote the script, and as I said before, he has a very good knowledge of diving. His imaging is very realistic as well as suited to the film medium.

But it says at the beginning that it is based on a true story. And the audiences go in believing that the whole thing is true, and throughout the bulk of the movie people believe that they are watching scenes based on the personal accounts of the principals!

Then doesn't that just make the film more shocking and poignant?
