'S'funny, the choice for both myself and my extremely comic-literate friends for the best Batman adaptation by far is the animated series from the '90s, with Mark Hamill's superlative Joker.

Ne le dis à personne Is a completely huggable piece of American chocalat made in France by Guillaume Canet, adapted from a Harlan Cobin Novel, Starring François Cluzet, Marie-Josée Croze and Kristin Scott Thomas.

It features an set of killer tracks (Otis Redding, Jeff Buckley,Bye Charlotte, Rendezvous, M&A ,22 among others) , A domesticated cinematography that keeps restraint over the elements as if they were Bordeaux Bulldogs and a screenplay in three acts, the first from the French new wave, the second from Warner brothers chase/thrillers from the sixties and the third an operatic denoument that lasts just a tad bit too long.

Tell no one is worth a watch in a regular movie theater, even if it's held back sometimes and sometimes just a little too netic in its sensibilities.

Fuck Jack. I want a real menace.

(ohwait) not that enabling child rape isn't menacing.

This can only be construed as the highest compliment. As Barbra said to Judy "Don't stop hating me. I need all the confidence I can get."

The only thing putting me off going to see Mamma Mia! is the thought of how determined certain members of the audience will be to have a good time. That said, I still maintain that this movie, where the men are reduced to drones in Queen Meryl's hive is the most subversive of the year.

Despite Tire's protests, I am becoming increasingly bored by the endless parade of comic book heroes. I will see the new Batman mainly because the Nolan-Bale partnership is the best thing the genre has to offer. I am reserving judgement on Heath Ledger's performance. It is already been so highly praised that talk of a posthumous Oscar doesn't seem misplaced. However, I worry that his portrtayal may be a little earnest, and that some, who should know better, are letting sentiment get the better of their judgement.

I'm surprised that inla hasn't been around to talk about her Streepitude.

Went to see Hellboy 2 last night with the entire family, and we all liked it-- 88% of a good film, with a few criticisms. But what really struck home was all the trailers for huge, bloated CG-heavy adventure/action/SF stuff. I mean, like, man, five soon-to-open film trailers in a row with HUGE EXPLOSIONS AND DRAGONS AND CARS HEADING STRAIGHT FOR YOUR FACE and Jesus it felt like they were all aimed at (or made by) hyperactive 9-year-olds.* I like dumb action films, but not just dumb action films....

*Mummy 3, Death Race, Babylon AD, Eagle Eye, Journey to the Center of the World, several others....

At least two of them starring Brendan Fraser, one of only a handful of actors I would make a trip to the movies to see. But not in The Mummy. I probably will see Journey to the Center of the Earth. The combo of Fraser and 3D is too much to fight.

When I saw Indiana Jones a few weeks ago, I had the same reaction to the multitude of wham-bam-blow 'em up trailers. (And then along comes Indy to escape an A-bomb test and blow up South America.) I don't know how they're going to keep up the competition--how much more can they blow up, destroy, and vaporize? Makes me want to go back to "Butley." Which I do anyway.

That said, I really liked the trailer for "The Spirit." Another graphic-novel-animation movie, but I never saw any of the others.
