This is SO cracking me up, I met QT this week and John Waters was taking him to the most interesting places. . . |

Billy, discussing how someones personality or sexuality might be reflected in thei work is not the same thing as engaging in a round of who is in or out of the closet.
I neither know nor care whether Tarantino is gay or that his patent Madonna and whore fixation might be the manifestation of unarticulated, unrealised or underlying sexual inclinations. The point I was trying to make is that his portrayal as women as alluring, ass-kicking assassins or feisty femme fatales cannot be seen as an expression of feminism; far from it. |

Jeremy--I beg to disagree. There is a kind of feminism often espoused by gay men who identify with women--and also see them as larger than life and exotic, in other words, "alluring, ass-kicking assassins or feisty femme fatales." I think it's not at all far-fetched to see this camp sensibility as also genuinely feminist. |

Ah ha! So you'd agree that Quentin Tarantino (about whom we couldn't give a monkey's as to whether he is gay or not) displays this sensibility.
Is the expression 'couldn't give a monkey's' used in America? If so, perhaps someone could specualte as to what is it that the monkey possesses that is worth little, but still more than the object of the under discussion. |

The expression I'm familiar with is "couldn't give a rat's ass." Nevery heard "monkey's." It would be rather unAmerican for us to not use that last word you prim proper oh so veddy veddy correct English types omit. |

It always bothers me when I hear Americans, mostly, use the term 'butt' instead of 'ass'. It is such a wimp out. Letterman always uses the word 'ass'. Sort of ironic because he's not an ass-kisser like the bland Leno. |
