I only dip my toe in, mostly in fairness to Joe. I disagree with his politics, but I prefer to give him a view of liberalism that doesn't involve calling him a moron (ironically, something McBain does frequently).

"Remember that recount after recount found Gore loosing in Florida."

A lot of African-Americans were wrongly disqualified, seemingly in a systematic and deliberate manner, and were not allowed to vote.

He talked about taking it "to the streets." Censored's gone off on "death to dictators." I think this is pretty radical, even for our notoriously histrionic site.

I "take to the streets" often now. Just this past weekend, I passed out flyers for Scott Mathison, a democrat candidate for governor here in Utah. I talk to people, tell them how important it is to get out and vote. And even though I was promoting one particular candidate, it was more bringing awareness to his support of the issues.

And I think I understand the context of censored's "death to dictators" comment... and I don't think he means using violence or killing anyone. Have you ever heard of the comment "death to the regime"?

I find this whole thing weird. Apparently, people aren't going to be allowed to listen to both sides and decide for themselves. They will be stopped if they do not vote correctly. (How the Perons would have loved that!) Or, at least, three people here will attempt to stop them.

But that is the whole purpose of getting into the streets and making people aware of what's going on. We are not trying to tell people what to do... we are trying to get people to think for themselves. And it's not about voting correctly. It's about voting period. People should think for themselves, not using anything like religion or political polls to sway them or tell them how to vote. They should look at the issues and what's important to them. Things like the economy and jobs and taxes and the envrionment are much more important than who served in what war and when. Personally, I could care less about all of this because it's just a fucking diversion from the real issues. And while both sides are guilty of following down these roads of diversions, the republicans seem more hell bent to trash and dishonor.

I know I can speak for myself in saying that I want this country to be something I'm proud of, not something that a bunch of control freaks want to change with the eventual reality of forcing everyone to follow in their path. And while I would like people to vote for Kerry and for a change in leadership, I would be much happier to know that people at least got out to vote.

I confine my attempts to overthrow the government to voting regularly, and I'm going to keep doing it until it works.

Chilly's right. I have felt disenfranchised for a long time. I always vote, but I do feel that the low voter turnouts of recent years have been because so many of us have felt marginalized by the vicious conservative revolution that has squandered our money and our good name among the nations of the world to try to turn back the clock to the 19th century.

Thank you, Marilyn. That's exactly what I am talking about. Voting is a right we fought for and I certainly don't want to see a majority party try to discourage anyone from exercising that right.
