I saw the Ramones on their first American tour (76,77) at a Denver nightclub. My band opened for them. There were no more than fifty people in the audience, but the Ramones came on the stage and blew us all away.
It was a revelation. I had never heard a tighter, louder or more energetic rock show in my life. It was a religious experience.

Wish I would have found the Ramones live back in the day when I first discovered them.

What band were you with at the time?

Here's the link to another article on the P2P court vicotry.

http://www.wired.com/news/digiwood/0,1412,64640,00.html?tw=newsletter_topstories_html

with my favorite part in bold:

Quote:
Michael Weiss, CEO of StreamCast Networks, operator of Morpheus, said in a statement, "Not only is today's ruling a victory for Morpheus, a hard-fought one at that, but this is a victory for our fellow P2P developers, a victory for American innovation and, perhaps more importantly, history will prove this to be a bigger win for the entertainment industry. Hopefully they will now embrace new technologies, like Morpheus, to seek new opportunities for artists and creators in the digital domain rather then spend their time and money trying to stifle progress."

With the last week's realization that my ex got the Pixies CDs (she doesn't really listen to them much anymore but still wants them... Evil or Very Mad anyway... I found Wave Of Mutilation: Best of Pixies tonight at the local CD store. Ripping to MP3 and making a copy for the car. A great best of and one that I'm sure will get listened to a lot in the next 40 days.

There was a sticker on the CD I just got that said it was also on DVD. I'll have to go check it out. Thanks for that, ehle.

oh, and I like the Chill Bill Vol.1 play on my name. It's better than what I used to be called in grade school (Marty Farty) but as cool as what I used to be called in high school (Party Hardy Marty). Razz

Speaking of live DVDs, I just picked up Rush In Rio after watching it this past April at my friend's house in Calif. It's very good and well put together and if you like Rush, you'll really like this set.

Marj,

I lived in Boulder, Colorado from 1972 to 1976. At that time my band was called THE RAVERS. We later became THE NAILS.

Marc,

As in: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?

I just missed you by a few years. I lived there from 1980 to 1985, but while I visited Boulder a lot, I lived in Denver. Crying or Very sad

unohoo,

we discussed Rick's passing. Marilyn even had a phot of him as her avatar.
Not all of the discussions of Jame's death were in the music forum

If anyone's being lame-o, it's unohoo-o, who, after several weeks finally now comes in here to toss blame. I mean, I dug Rick James, but after a few posts of "R.I.P.", "so sad he left so early" and whatnot, what else is there to discuss? That's an honest question, you got something cool to say about James, go for it. I'd be interested in reading it.

As ehle said... post away if there's something you want to add about Rick James. While it was a few weeks back, even the DJ at the bar on Friday night played a tribute to Rick James. It was two songs, but still, it was cool.
