It does look pretty good for a kid's movie. On the other hand, Nancy's lent me her Marlene Dietrich collection, and Morocco is calling to me. Decisions, decisions.
Easy choice. See MOROCCO. |

| By the way, the next animated Dr. Seuss film is Green Eggs and Ham. I don't know how they'll stretch it to feature length, but I intend to find out, even if I need to borrow my grandniece to see it. |

Unsolicited anecdote No. 143.
My third name is Haughton. When I was about seven or eight, I remember one of the main broadcast channels showing a cartton feature featuring Horton the elephant. I tell you it made my life hell for at least two playtimes. For a yeat afterwards whenever anyone asked, "What does the H stand for," I'd tell them, "Hannibal." |

But if I do that, how are you going to know whether or not to see Horton Hears a Who? Besides, my niece may want to know whether to take her kids to see the movie. |

Who's playing the green eggs? And who's playing the ham? |

Horton will still be hearing a who after you watch Morocco. Did you finish Blonde Venus yet? |

Jim Carrey should be the ham. |

I saw 2 films today in Paris. First let me say that jet-lag and sleep apnea do not make a good combination so my wakeful moments were not as many as I would have liked.
Olivier Assayas' new film, "L'heure d'ete"(literally The Hour of Summer), is directed by Olivier Assayas and stars, among others Juliette Binoche, in the ensemble cast. This is a film about families and how property is disposed of once an elder relative passes away. I would imagine it'll get distribution.
The second film is called "Buddha collapsed out of shame," directed by the young (under age 20) Hana Makhmalbaf, daugher of Mohsen Makhmalbaf. The themes of children are similar to her father's films. Here the setting is Afghanistan where the film begins with the dynamiting of the ancient Buddhas carved into the mountainside. Makhmalbaf uses children to tell a story about the subjugation of women, lack of women's education, and brutality of the Americans (as the children play American soldier games). I'm sure that this film will also get U.S. distribution. It is a fine film - quite remarkable for such a young filmmaker. It's a lot less subtle than anything her father has done.
These are both films to watch for. |

Samira Makhmalbaf, another daughter, did the very excellent Al Sib (The Apple) at a young age.
That young neighbor with the mouth still makes me smile. |

You do NOT want to miss the young, very handsome Gary Cooper! |

Mo,
California Dreaming is a very fine film and would be quite good on a big screen. Made my Top Ten for 2007.
Mein Fuhrer gets some poor reviews on IMDb. I just spotted the dvd yesterday, but decided to pass. |

I'm doing my best to corrupt Syd with questionable movies of the '30's, but cartoon elephants keep creeping in. |

I wish I had. I really, really didn't like Life Is Beautiful. |

| I liked seeing Walter Matthau speaking Italian in one of his movies, but overall he's kinda saccharine-y. |
