The two most disappointing films of 2007 (for me) were:
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Spiderman 3 |

Elizabeth: The Golden Age was the biggest disappointment for me, and I wasn't overly fond of the first film, but still. When La Blanchett makes me roll my eyes at points where clearly I should be electrified, somethings amiss in the mother country, or at least the director/screenwriter's chair. Not even Clive, Clive, Be Still My Beating Heart, Clive made me care. A pannier-centric panoply of revisionist ham, ruff where it wasn't risible, doubleting over in cliches, garnished with gherkins. |

My expectations of ELIZABETH: TGA were very low to begin with. I just rented it and was expecting it to be much worse.
I'm sure I would have felt differently if I'd been captive in a large auditorium for a screening. |

Err, it has been done before...Rather well in fact... |

That's for sure...and a hell of a lot shorter, too. (Which is not better per se, just a hell of a lot shorter.)
It's the extreme length of Seven Samurai that IMO is its only fault. |

Well, I actually feel a little better.

We're not talking adaptation, we're talking remake. |

Just pointing out it's not necessarily a suckfest...only probably a suckfest. |

Didn't see Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Verily a Sequel!, but agreed on Spiderman 3. and I'd add Shrek the Third and The Golden Compass.
I was also somewhat disappointed in Harry Potter 5, but that was because installments 3 and 4 were so good. 5's okay, but I was expecting a lot more than that. Imelda Staunton was terrific. |

Notice many dissatisfied with sequels.
Usually sucker bets.
I have to hear some pretty good praise before I consider watching a sequel.
Then again, usually they make sequels of films I've never seen -- blockbusters and other inflated fare. |

But note that I was very happy with the third and fourth Harry Potter movies (and the sixth and seventh books), The Bourne Ultimatum, Spider-Man 2, and I thought the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean carried on the tradition nobly, even to the point of being at least a half-hour too long.
But I, too, want to hear some praise, which is why I didn't see Spy Kids 3-D. Besides, Alexa Vega was almost cut out of that one in favor of her little brother, who I find a bit much as a sidekick, let alone a star.
I do understand BloodRayne 2 is an improvement over the original... |

Worst film of 2008 so far:
Will Ferrell's SEMI-PRO
This film is the bottom of the barrell for Will Ferrell. Even Woody Harrelson is miscast in the "Owen Wilson"-role. Extremely boring and unfunny.
Don't bother. Not even at the dollar house. You can find something better to do with your time. |

That's what it looked like to me. Glad to have it confirmed. I will be avoiding this one. |

Another sequel that was better than the original: "The Road Warrior" (aka "Mad Max II). The third one wasn't bad, either, but "Road Warrior" is a classic, IMO. |
