For me it's an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Oh, I'd love to do it, I just can't.
Several times I've been walking places with Wade when he points out actors. I completely miss everybody. Willem Dafoe was 10 FEET from us and I didn't get it at first. I suck at ID-ing, never ask me to be a witness. |

I was that close to Charlton Heston once. He was hard to miss, though shorter than I expected. I can sometimes tell who is doing a voice-over, especially if it's a Star Trek actor. Some of the others I can't get, though. |

Lady,
I did actually use voice ID as a trivia question once. No one got it so fear not. You're not alone. But it hard question because the actor's voice isn't easily recognizable. I asked what actor does the Master Card "Priceless" commercials.
I'll leave the answer out just in case Mo knows it. Sneaky little person that I am. Te, he.
PS. I don't know if it's a compulsion really. I have a horrible ear for accents but I can be reading or half asleep and still recognize most actor's voices. I do think it's just one of those things. And as Nancy pointed out familiarity with an actor's voice. |

I'm always hearing familiar voices on voiceovers and it makes me crazy not to be able to figure out who they are. That's one reason Connery and McCallum are so satisfying--they're so recognizable.
And I'm also one of those people who can walk past a celebrity without noticing, which is made worse when I'm with my friend David, who recognizes everybody. "We just passed Robin Williams." "Where!?" "He's a block away now." Several times he's encountered lesser-known actors and actresses who were delighted to be recognized, but he doesn't usually speak to the really famous ones. |

carrobin--Next time you have that experience with a commercial, mention it. I'd be curious to see if I would know. Of course Mo might know too!
Listen for the Accord car commercials. Of course these ran a lot over the holidays but I'd be surprised if everyone doesn't recognize this voice. |

You know, the problem could be that I don't have tv reception or cable. Kinda hard to recognize someone in a commercial if you don't watch commercials... |

Sorry for this rather tasteless remark, but I'm surprised you didn't bump into his dick. He's rumored to have a huge one. |

More on voice id-ing:
I also have a lot of fun listening to how the "movie preview man" changes his voice for the different kinds of films: action, horror, comedy, etc.
"60 Minutes" did a great profile on him a few years ago. |

This is Control as in Joy Division, right? I think Wade was going to check that out. I've also heard bits and pieces about a few others, but haven't gotten a chance to check any out. |

OK, I'll listen for them. And while it's not a voice-over, i have been spotting William Shatner in an awful lots of Priceline commercials lately. They must be breeding when no one is looking. |

Those Shatner Priceline commercials are among the few that I actually sit there and watch. Always funny. |
