gromit--Use spoiler alerts and tell me your problem with the title of 4...3...2....

I just thought the title specifies exactly the length of the pregnancy, while the woman seems unsure, contradicts herself while lying about how long she hasn't menstruated, and no specific night of conception (or even who the father is) is ever mentioned, as we do get specifically in Waitress.
It's not a big deal, but just struck me as odd.

I do like the title.
It's designation of a specific time fits in with the tenor and rhythm of the film, which is almost presented in real-time and portrays a quotidian moment in near documentary style.

So it's a good title and fits with the themes and directness of the film, but it didn't seem anyone could be anywhere near that precise about the gestation period. So it's a little false too.

I loved the title, letting the audience know something that no one in the film knows for sure--exactly how old the fetus was.

I liked the Tiny Canadian so much in Juno that I picked up Hard Candy today.
Also snagged The Diving Bell & B-fly, and Across the Universe. Unfortunately, There Will be Blood is still not a great copy. So waiting on that.

I also went with two other recent Romanian films: California Dreaming (2007) and Legaturi Bolnavicioase (2006) aka Love Sick.

The Buzzcensus on why 4 Months was snubbed is that there are still too many impacted, codgerly types on the ForLang committee, and its unsparing rawness and hot-button topicality unnerved them. Me, I just think they didn't bother to see it.

It's such an incredible experience. Seldom if ever has such a downer been so exhilarating.

I've said the same thing about Into the Wild.

Ghulam......Glad you liked Across the Universe. I enjoyed it, too.

Across The Universe is released on video this week. On my list to pick up.

Please, please tell me your opinion of California Dreaming. One of the co-stars is a good friend of mine.

larey - is there really any doubt this movie ISN'T going to pull in the gold boys?

I thought it was a given.

It'll pull in a bunch, but Juno's going to get a bunch, too, including, quite likely, Best Picture.

There is always doubt with that, um, film society, and Juno has been touted by much of the punditry as Upset Spoiler, based on its popularity with middle Oceania and immense grosses. Except, Juno is also viewed as sweet but small and relatively inconsequential; the bulk of its cast are primarily tele-familiar first, and it's a comedy. AMPAS rarely does small, is implicity snobbish about television actors and, always, comedies have the hardest haul. Diablo Cody's lock on original screenplay merely awaits WGA confirmation when their awards are handed out. Ellen Page may win the Ingenue Vote if Christie Julie and La Cotillard split the ticket. Reitman hasn't a prayer, and the only other nom is for Best Picture. Which has to be judged against the newly renewed luster and numerical heft of SAG and PGA and DGA listing toward NCfOM, a more telling roadmark than usual -- the largest single voting bloc, the most listened-to voting bloc and the most respected voting bloc have already made their minds up, and the unlikelihood of cinematographers, editors, design and technical branches ignoring the flash of NCfOM, Blood There Will Be, Mentatone or even Michael Clayton at the top of their ballot for Juno is considerable. Without sensational talk-show turns or cleverly adjudicated public appearances to impact upon that long slow subliminal build-up that NCfOM maintained, and with the strike putting this whole shebang in (unwilling) perspective as seldom before (locals grow far more interested in the latest strike news, like the reported concession in the informal talks on the Web compensation issue, and the nearing-its-zenith presidential horse race), it's not inconceivable that Juno will prevail, just highly doubtful. It certainly wouldn't be my bet at Vegas.
