Just got back from London yesterday, and one of the plays I saw was "Swimming with Sharks." I had no idea a stage play had been made of it, and I never saw the Kevin Spacey movie, but it was rather good. Christian Slater was the lead, and I haven't enjoyed a performance of his so much since "Pump Up the Volume."

Another show I saw was "The 39 Steps," which is a parody not only of the title film but of all the Hitchcock flicks that revolve around trains and spies and mysterious femme fatales and dapper heroes in hats. It was great fun. I think it's coming to Broadway soon.

Choke, in which I think I have some funny moments, debuted at Sundance Monday night and is still due for some screenings.

It's already been picked up by Fox Searchlight. Stars are Sam Rockwell and Anjelica Huston.

Wow. If you mentioned this before, I'm sorry I missed it. I will have to see if there are any other viewings of this. I need a break...and a movie break, especially one with you in it, would be a nice treat.

One doc that I want to see is "Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden", done by Morgan Spurlock ("Supersize Me").

Morgan Spurlock's cousin lives in Taos.

I thought the clown from the movie It was pretty bloody scary.

Oh, God. You've made me remember Pennywise the Clown in the TV version of Stephen King's It.

That sounds like fun!

I met Emmett Kelly once, when I was a child. He gave me a flower. I've always liked him. Maybe that's why I don't really have a problem with clowns.

Billy, the video name and link to the video itself are on my computer at home so I can't give the info. You'll have to be atypically immodest and give inla the info.

Wow, how cool to meet Emmett Kelly. I didn't have a problem with clowns as a child, so far as I can recall. Sometime after adolescence they started making me uneasy. Don't know whether it's the red noses or the wild hair or the painted smile or the clown white. But then, I loved Marcel Marceau, and Les Enfants du Paradis doesn't upset, and Pagliacci seems so far immune (except when the tenor can't really sing it -- that's very scary). Maybe it's a recessive gene or sump'n.

There was an episode on one of the Star Trek shows that had a clown and that creeped me out (and was supposed to). Ventriloquist's dummies also get to me, and it has nothing to do with the movie Magic. I think it was the dummy in Knock on Wood and I'm not sure why.

And in which Billy gives a great performance, by the way.

Yes, I agree. Don't remember if I posted my accolades before, but billy did a great performance.

My feelings exactly-- it's a creepy masterpiece of oily, nasty characterization. Billy's IMDb photo is also disturbing-- please do not go into a dark alley with this man!!

Carro,
Definitely check out the film Swimming with Sharks.
That's where I first noticed Kevin Spacey.
He's very good in that.
Believe it or not, I saw it on late night Chinese TV.

Gromit: Since seeing the play, I'm really interested in seeing the film of "Swimming with Sharks." I'm sure Spacey is terrific--as was Slater, but probably with a different style. It's a good nasty role for any actor who enjoys that kind of thing.
