I liked Hairspray a lot, but not top 10 a lot. The only thing about the film that I thought was bad, bad, bad was John Travolta in that role. I found him very off-putting and hard to stomach (redundant?), so to answer a question put to Wade, Travolta sucked! |

Sorry to rain on the anti-Travolta bandwagon, but I thought he was the best thing about the movie. And I am the farthest thing from a John Travolta fan. |

To call John Waters "cheesy" is to blatantly miss the point. How absurd.
To put this glossy-schlocky-over-the-toppy film anywhere near a top ten list with the year in film we've been dealt is absurd. |

The three us will have to get together in New York and settle this Hairspray business. |

I liked both versions of Hairspray and the musical is in my top 10 of 2007, somewhere around #6. It was the most fun I had at the movies this year. I'd have to see the original again to see which I like better. I remember Divine, so I can confidently say I liked him better than Travolta, but I'm not sure which Tracy I prefer. I do hope Nikki Blonsky doesn't wind up turning skinny and hosting a talk show. |

Ehle, there is a world of difference between a film being deliberately cheesy and one being cheesy despite ithe filmmakers best efforts to be tasteful. |

I agree with Billy again regarding Travolta. He was a wonderfully over-the-top ham, and coupled with Chris Walken they were more fun to watch than Jerry Stiller and Divine. |

I didn't know Chris Walken was in Hairspray. Guess I need to add this one to the list... or read more people's reviews. |

Walken was on several talk shows publicizing the film--he apparently had a great time. |

Happiness is listening to Serge Gainsbourg on the train coming home from Atonement. |

I can imagine! Serge is definitely one of my faves. I have got a fairly good collection of his cd's.
BTW be sure to check out the VANITY FAIR article about his apartment in Paris. Daughter Charlotte has kept it as is in the hope of turning the small place into a museum.
Also, be sure to watch the YouTube segment when a very drunk Serge tells Whitney Houston that he wants to f*** her!
Marc has some good Serge dvd's of old TV shows at his store. They are probably rare but worth trying to find! |

I have loved Gainsbourgh for a while. Even visited his grave. Why he would have anything to do with Atonement is beyond me. But then again, I wish the whole experience of seeing Atonement could be erased. |

If you don't think Waters would love being called "cheesy" then I don't think you get Waters at all. |
