Wade,

Her simplicity, her authenticity, and her genuine approach to music is such a breath of fresh air. I don't even know if I could call her a pop singer. She seems to defy catagorization. Don't you think?

Wade, listen to Madelyn Perioux. I don't know if I've spelled her name correctly but like Bailey Rae and even Norah Jones, she too is her own person, though she is perhaps more jazz than pop.

She's a refreshing antidote to...lots of things.

I don't think she would have been as worthy a winner of the Brit as Corrine Bailey Rae, but, for the moment, Lilly Allen makes me smile. Nice video too.

I really dig Lily Allen. Reminds of the old Two-Tone days - Madness, The Selector, Specials etc. And Kirsty MacColl'S "There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis".

And while we're on the subject of refreshing, antithetical, English chanteuses, we also have Lady Soveriegn

Not a single shaking booty to be seen.

And, if your a sucker for punishment, here's more of the punky, grimey, reggaefied rappess:

I dig both Lady Soveriegn and Corrine. I hate senseless celeb feuds.

Just got finished watching High Fidelity again after 10 or so years and loved it. The whole record store vibe, all the music snobbery and especially Jack Black's version of "Let's Get It On" @ the end.

p.s. there is a Stephen Frears forum in the Film Forum section of Third Eye and we will be discussing this film later *fingers crossed* -- let's spark some interest here people!

Time doesn't fly by quite that fast. The movie came out a little over six years ago.

The wonder of YouTube, part whatever. Came across a clip on YouTube earlier of Echo & The Bunneymen at a gig in Liverpool back in 84, which I attended. Great gig, as I recall. Great beer, too. McCullough, in expanded mode due to copious supplies of weed, dallies into The Doors, Joe Hill & other diffuse sources towards the end:

I had no idea who they were, but Neon Bible got a rave in today's Atlanta Journal. And they are Canadian.
