I highly recommend THE U.S. vs. JOHN LENNON which was recently released. It was certainly one of the best documentaries of 2006, if not THE best (how do you choose when there were so many).

The movie contains a LOT of info. I didn't know about Lennon in the period after he married Yoko. Not only did he campaign tirelessly for peace during the Vietnam years, but he was "used" to some extent by the radicals of the day.

His harrassment by the U.S. government because of his fame and influence is carefully detailed. Very interesting in light of today's scene.

The movie brought the events of those years back to me as if it were yesterday and left me with a deep sadness.
========================================

Can't wait to see the documentary on the Dixie Chicks by Barbara Kopple which is scheduled to be released soon.

That poor, frustrated journalist interviewing John and Yoko in bed "for peace." She committed suicide years later. Tried to google her name, but failed to succeed. Very famous, and I should know it.

Clearly, I wasn't making a connection between the two things. Just sad that she killed herself. I can understand her frustration in that interview, though.

mo -- even though you feel ignored a lot of the times in here (i think a lot of us do) i put The USA vs. John Lennon in my queue thanks to your reminder. We're all here cause we love film, uhm, I think, so Couch is a pertinent and possibly even the greatest FILM forum we have. Especially if you think outside of our own box.

Come on World. This is the World WIDE Web. I love our diversity, but hope to hell we're not all posting to the (whatever the fuck christians call themselves in church settings)>

The phrase is preaching to the choir. Preaching to the congregation is what you are supposed to do.

And we are not peckerheads, sheep, or scary mofos. Mostly.

Taking a much-needed trip to Trashville last night, I watched Urban Legend, one of those late '90s Scream imis sporting an unusually good cast and a clever driving story idea. It was really quite relaxingly good - as much as you can describe a film where a guy gets tied to a toilet and has drain cleanser poured down his throat as relaxing - in a My Bloody Valentine way (the film, not the band). Then it did one of the biggest final-act collapses ever, and went reeallllllllly dumb. The only question it left was why no-one uses Alicia Witt more; she's way better than the parts she gets. Perhaps starting off in Dune hexed her.
