Now, just what you've been waiting for: a retrospective of animated Soviet propaganda!

This is part one, and it runs about half an hour.

I know nothing about linguistics but I know something of the recent history and politics of the western world and Chomsky is full of shit. And this is the result of his, by now dated, far left bias. He has legions of naive, half baked college students and every old American doctrinaire lefty who is still alive. I first heard him in 1975 when he was interviewed on a CBC radio show. He was railing against the NYT and telling how they were an instrument of the government and complicit in the furthering of the war in Vietnam. I wondered who this nutcase was. He obviously never read the Pentagon Papers, something he didn't include in his argument for some reason. It's all a vast conspiracy to him. Of course that's what attracts all those followers. His defence of Pol Pot was a little bizarre, but I'm sure his followers were convinced in their minds that this was because we weren't really being told about the truth behind that benevolent regime. And his endorsement of that Nazi who wrote a holocaust denial book, well, let's say he has an unusual way of reasoning. He tried to deny his involvement here, but it was difficult seeing as his endorsement and stamp of approval was quoted on the book's cover.

He's an apologist for every loony tyrant as long as they fit his view of the world. e.g. hating whatever government that happens to be at the head of the U.S.A.

The guy is a prick and his worshippers are fueled by a mindset of ' America is evil and the poor downtrodden 'others' are saints'. Rational analysis has nothing to do with it. It doesn't seem to matter if these 'others' are nazi/fascists or Stalinist communists or fanatic theocrats or bloodthirsty terrorists, America is the bad guy.

I think the funniest interview I ever saw was Ali G's with Pat Robertson. You just have to see it to believe it. Things like this just can't be explained.

I'd LOVE to see this. Do you know where I can find it?

BTW, I'm just awfully curious how Ali G lands these interviews. Some of the VIP's seem in on the joke, but others are clueless (and humorless).

Try Google or YouTube (pretty much one in the same now).

I've not searched yet myself, but I would imagine the first result or two will have a link to the video.

Chomsky's work in linguistics never came up at all in the documentary that was such a big hit in Sta. Fe a couple of years ago.

In fact, I got the impression that he must be Emeritus and spends a great deal of time traveling to speaking engagements.

No his work in linguistics never does come up. It really has nothing to do with what he has been doing for the last 30 plus years.

Mo,

When I saw all The Ali G shows they were on HBO. I'd just sit there and watch one after the other while my neighbors must have thought I had lost my mind, I was laughing so.

I wish I could tell you were to find them. But I would try Netflix. They may be rentable. Or try the HBO site. I think you can email them. And of course Chilly is right. YouTube might have them.

Btw, Borat is on Letterman tonight!

Was it Pat Buchanan? I'm not finding any Ali G with Pat Robertson.

Yeah, thanks, Syd.Pretty amazing that the Soviet people could buy into such crude crap, and yet they did, for over two generations. What do you compare it to, if you're allowed no points of reference.

Marc has the HBO episodes - but no Pat Robertson that I know of.

I hope Elizabeth Taylor is amused by Borat's admiration. I wonder if he knows she's Jewish.

Then it must be Pat Buchanan then. You can't honestly expect me to keep these guys straight. Cool

Anyhow, I saw him and I was laughing hysterically of course. I have been waiting forever for someone to do what he did with the chairs. Why I find this funny I can't say. But I do.

ALI G

Best and worst guest - re: Pat Buchanan

Which guest handled it best and which made biggest fool of him/herself?
by tracyktt (Fri Sep 15 2006 16:06:55 )

UPDATED Sat Sep 16 2006 11:06:28
"I think Patrick Buchanon handled himself the best. In fact, I'm pretty sure he caught on by the end as he was cracking up so much that Ali G asked him if he had taken a puff beforehand, to which he good naturedly replied something like 'yeah a puff beforehand' to which Ali G responded something like "Respec, we can talk more business AFTER".

"Plus, he seemed to flow well with the punches, as he didn't go out of his way to correct Ali G on using 'BLT' instead of 'WMD' and would go along and answer the question substituting the BLT acronym.

"Made me actually gain a lot of respect of Buchanon since he proved himself as not taking himself too seriously.

"On the flipside, Andy Rooney, what a turdball. If there's one geezer that needs to retire, it's him. Amazing that he's made his bread and butter from on his satirical op-eds at the end of 60 minutes, yet seems to have zero clue and/or zero tolerance for anyone's satire but his own.

"It was also hysterical to watch rooney begin the interview with Ali G, as he sat there frowning while watching Ali G introduce him I could have sworn that it seemed like he was on the verge of breaking down in tears as he heard Ali G sit there and butcher to pieces his precious idea of how the english language should be spoken.

"Also, if you listen carefully after Ali G asks him his first question of whether he felt if the media has changed since he first got into it, his voice is literally cracking like he's about to break down and cry. Absolutely hysterical."

Both are religious, but Buchanan actually does his own thinking before speaking to the press. Robertson is the one who wants to see pretty much any non-christians burned at the stake or shot dead and passing it off as a good thing.

I watched that sketch last night and laughed pretty hard. It was well done.
