I wonder how much of Turnip's geopolitical "thinking"' is just Stephen Miller pulling his strings. There's an oil glut now on the world market, so I can't see how adding more heavy crude (and the billions in infrastructure repair needed to get it) would really make sense. I suspect it's more about keeping VZ and Mexico from supplying Cuba, weakening it and making it easier to convert to a MAGA satellite.

Anyway Turnip has certainly gutted the US moral standing and right to criticize Putin for his expansionist aims.

I'm trying to decide whether I should watch the Oscars this year. I have seen exactly one of the nominees in any category (Zootopia 2 in Animated Features--nice but doesn't deserve an Oscar unless the other four films are awful.) I blame hearing loss, an amazing inability of local theaters to show anything promising, and getting old and lazy. And streaming services, since I can't subscribe to all of them. I still haven't seen CODA, and it won best picture, for God's sakes.

I blame COVID. It killed the movie theaters.

I've never been a joiner. And not much on groups. As slow as the slowest member, physically or mentally it seems.

Have not seen Sinners or One Battle After Another, due to similar theater problems, and those are the frontrunners for BP I hear. We're seeing one of the nominees, for BP and three other categories, Train Dreams tomorrow night. Covid didn't kill any local theaters, but it did seem to make them more risk-averse in what they bring. That's almost worse. I'm old, too, and though not terribly lazy I do seem to enjoy the laziness more.
