Missing the point, Knox, but thanks to two people for putting me down. So glad I started visiting this site again...and I'm outta here.

I was really commenting on the nature of teenagers, generally, and my question was more in jest than I think you took it to be. It was sort of an invitation to tell us what your high school years were like, and how you were so blessed as to be enjoying the status quo at that time. Your take on things, at that age, was so different from mine that it drew my interest. When I was that age, Watergate hearings were going on, so there was a widespread yearning for change in Washington and in the system generally.

Happy festivities, or Festivus, y'all.

I fear we may be seeing The Mule over the break, though I personally would rather sprinkle toenail trimmings in my eyes than watch anything remotely in the Gran Torino mode. I am told this is funnier, and better, and Eastwood plays more against type, but I remain vigilant and prepared with scissors to fall on. Rumor is that this may be his swan song as an actor, so I guess there's that.

I remain appalled that Gran Torino was denied a Razzie as worst movie of its year, and even more so that Eastwood lost out on the Worst Actor prize. Unwatchable. I'm in a minority that feels Eastwood is egregiously overrated as a director. Loved his first, Play Misty for Me, but rarely even felt as positive as "meh" about most of the others. My favorites of later Eastwoods were A Perfect World, mainly for Costner's performance, and Hereafter, which most "critics" didn't like. Unforgiven was okay but should not have won the Oscar over The Crying Game. As for Absolute Power and True Crime, they're only infinitesimally more watchable than Gran Torino.

His South American wife left him, then the quality of his posts here changed fairly dramatically, then he stopped posting. Those are the dots I can connect. I hope he's doing better now.

I remember when she left him but around that time I fell away from Third Eye to a great extent. Hope Gary is all right.

Marantz stopped posting for a while, and then when he returned his posts were much simplified. Hate to speculate but I thought it likely indicated a medical issue/health impairment. Was hoping someone could check in on him via Facebook.

Last mention of him on Facebook that I can find was almost exactly five years ago, when he visited Marc and his wife in Austin. Not looking good, I'm sorry to say.

Well, I've never been on facebook.

His last post here was Summer 2017.
Maybe Marc might know what's up?

I checked with Marc. He knows nothing and now I've got him worried too.

On a less alarming subject, I think I just set a personal record by correcting a typo on a 15-year-old post.

Minor typo on Barrymore's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" that I had to fix because it was irritating me.

The correction penis mightier than the sword.

RIP Terry Pratchett. That hurts. I have and have read all the Discworld books and have a collection of his short stories ready to read. I really enjoyed the televised version of "Going Postal," which is faithful to one of his best novels.

Am reading Going Postal. Now I see why "that hurts." Damn. Not sure I've ever read sharper SF/Fant humor. I am giggling insanely.
