Payment update:

With the last two payments on their way (inla's arrived the other day), we have met our goal this year.

Very much appreciated to everyone who contributed.

On a note for the actual domain name registration, I will be moving that to a cheaper service that gives us 2 years for the price of one year we are currently paying with Network Solutions. The funds collected also covered that fee, so we are good for dues for the year.

I missed that. What's the assessment and the address?

I just noticed that Susannah York died last week. Did someone mention this?

She starred in two Oscarwinning films, a rare achievement.

Only a few actors and actresses have starred in more than one, and only a handful in three, to wit:

Diane Keaton, The Godfather, The Godfather 2, Annie Hall

Meryl Streep, The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs. Kramer, Out of Africa

Shirley MacLaine, Around the World in 80 Days, The Apartment, Terms of Endearment

Dustin Hoffman, Midnight Cowboy, Kramer vs. Kramer, Rain Main

Clark Gable, It Happened One Night, Mutiny on the Bounty, Gone With the Wind

Marlon Brando, On the Waterfront, The Godfather, The Godfather 2

Jack Hawkins, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia

The Social Network won the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Fincher got Best Director and Sorkin Best Screenplay. Awesome.

Glad to see Jesse Eisenberg was nominated for Best Actor. Would like to see him pick up an Oscar this year, but seriously doubt that happening.

Both Natalie Portman and Annette Bening got Golden Globes. I would give the edge to the latter for the Oscar.

I'm not expecting much difference between the Globes, Oscars and Blanches. (Will there be Blanches.) In the ones where the Globes split the categories, I'm expecting The Social Network, Firth and Portman.

Also nice to see Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer and Glee pick up Globes.

Why wouldn't there be Blanches? I expect Benning to take home the Oscar, too.

Ricky Gervais was genuinely hilarious and genuinely scathing in his stint as emcee of the Golden Globes. His gibes at Tim Allen, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, The Tourist, the cast of Sex and the City 2, and the Hollywood Foreign Press were memorable and not apt to make him a popular H'wood party guest. I suspect he doesn't care. Go Ricky!

Gervais's turn made the show a pleasure to watch and a cut above the Oscars.

I suspect most, if not many of his audience 'gets' him. If not, why would the GG's invite him back for a second go-round? Who cares. I think he's hysterical. The Oscars will be a let down after this.

A second go-round, yes, but will he get a third after some of the most outrageously edgy jokes in years? Ageist, gay-bashing, you name it. But hysterically funny.

"We've had some great television this year. Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead...oh, and speaking of Hugh Hefner...." And then continuing with some almost bleepable stuff. I laughed a lot.

Sorry I missed it. Just got over bronchial pneumonia and have been hitting the sack early.

My son's (THE DOCTOR), opinion of The Black Swan, "...saw black swan, awful! what a mess, and sleazy. what do they say on the forum? "

I haven't seen it and I don't know if I agree with him or not.

You need to hone your unseen reviews, they're getting too equivocal.

I've been putting off Black Swan, as it doesn't sound much like my type of film. But I'll give it a try after a while. I think the Dvd has been out here for over a month.

Just got Winter's Bone and will report back on that.

Will Ricky survive or crash and burn? That's apparently a big question this morning. My take: fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.
