Marc, you're owed an apology.

I don't think so.

Why? I mean, we're all adults here, right? From some of ehle's context, his issue seems to go back to the C word discussion - a discussion which cost us lissa and lady w - and which I suspect rankles some to this day. That discussion is also where marc's response to lissa's taking offense to his use of the word was to tell her to go fuck herself and the horse she rode in on - for which I am pretty sure not only would no apology be forthcoming, it was followed by worse. Shit happens, people rub against each other. Life and posting goes on.

Let me try that again because it sounds wrong to me: marc is one of the posters here with an oversized personality, and he makes no bones about or apologies for it, nor should he. But as Aunt Dahlia's superb French chef Anatole would say, you have to take a few roughs with the smooth. When you have a personality that pisses some people off, some people, well, get pissed off. It's the price you pay for being that way.

Whiskey,

Danielle still responds to some of my posts on Facebook.

Listen, I have no problem with people getting up in my grill. I can handle it. But Ehle (who said he was done with the forums and hasn't been around for awhile) appeared out of nowhere to insult me. He was responding to a comment I made (a harmless one) that wasn't even about him or directed at him. It's just fucking weird.

I never told Lissa to go fuck herself.

I have often apologized or admitted to being wrong both on and off the forums. I have no problem saying "I'm sorry".

True enough, as I was summarizing. What you said was "Lissa, you're full of shit. I'm sick and tired of your holier than thou crap. Go school your kids not me.

The reason no one responded is because it wasn't taken seriously by anyone other than your humorless ass." I think that "go fuck yourself" does as a translation.

And to be fair, what I gathered from lady w is more along the lines that the discussion crystalized some issues she had about this site rather than being ticked off that marc used the word, which is why she has hopefully on temporarily absented herself. I've tried to lure her back with the promise of a Coen Bros forum, but my offer here to sort of moderate it was met with silence from everyone except the new guy.

Since you're bringing up the subject, I met Lissa for coffee about a month ago, it'd been ages since we got together, and she told me about that whole C-word issue (I wasn't around here for a couple of months and missed it). She'd been studying online bullying at the time, and the combination of Marc's post and her current interest collided in an explosion of bad timing. She was pretty evenhanded about what happened, didn't just dump blame on Marc, but stuck to her guns that she reacted correctly.

I went back, found Marc's original post and thought, "Is that it???" I mean, yeah, he used the dreaded c-word, but in my opinion - and unless I missed other posts - he said it in such a benign, lighthearted way I couldn't imagine anyone seeing anything malicious in it. I know Lissa was 100% sincere in her reaction, but I think she was so immersed in online bullying that she saw an attack where there was none.

This is my first and hopefully last comment on the subject.

Please realize that this is colored by 1) my being a woman; 2) my being a person who has bandied about the c-word on occasion; 3) my being a basically disenfranchised poster here who, with every post, says this is the last time I'm posting here - but, whatever the intent of the speaker, I cannot imagine the c-word being heard in a benign, lighthearted way.

I've been married almost 22 years to an amazing, really smart and funny man whom I get on a level that cannot be described in mere verbal terms; if he (saying he lost the NCAA pool to me) invoked the c-word, he'd pause for a second, check out the glare he's getting and say "I'm kidding, okay? Please don't kill me."

There's just something about the c-word. That's just my opinion.

I meant to comment on that and it slipped my mind. My apologies.

I support such a forum and your offer to moderate it. I've generally liked (in a few cases, loved) the Coen films I've seen and there are several I've yet to see. I'd relish the chance. Bring it on.

As someone who chooses his words carefully, I disagree. I say what I mean.

Whiskey, I suggested that you host The Coen Brothers forum weeks ago.

I can and I have used it in just such a way. Ask my old lady.
