this week showed that the Chinese authorities were determined to oversee the shaping of Mr. Obama’s public image here.

They rejected a White House request to nationally broadcast Mr. Obama’s town-hall-style meeting on Monday in Shanghai, and carefully screened and coached questioners. One student said that she and other participants underwent four days of “training” beforehand and that they were ordered not to ask about Tibet.

Mr. Obama’s news conference with President Hu Jintao on Tuesday was broadcast nationwide, but no questions were allowed.

Coleman Hawkins radio all day Sat until 6:AM NY time on Sunday.
89.9 FM in NYC
or
http://kanga.college.columbia.edu:8000/listen.pls
on the interweb.

Coleman Hawkins was the first jazz soloist on saxophone, and the progenitor of the standard honking sax sound (later contrasted by Lester Young development of a fluid mellow sax approach). Hawk basically played with nearly everyone in jazz from the 20's through the 60's, and is/was about as influential as anyone in the history of jazz.

Love Coleman Hawkins. Had his LP The Hawk in HiFi. Another of my albums that is among the missing. His My Favorite Things is one of his many classics.

Sadie was not related.

I was checking the members list to see if any of my friends joined..do you know that there are drug and sex sites from..ghana,guam all over asia etc..on the memberlist? Not that i'm objecting to sex and drugs but, they seem highly suspicious to say the least.why are they here????

The membership process is generally automatic. You register, you're a member. These companies register at sites constantly. Every once in a while Lorne goes through and cleans out the garbage, but it's essentially impossible to prevent them from registering.

No proablem. And you're not the only person irritated by this. It drives Gary nuts. I guess I'd rather have an accurate refection of our membership, myself, but I understand why Lorne can't be a constant gatekeeper.

I made the mistake of inviting several hundred members of "The Trannies For Jesus" website to join us here. They in turn invited their friends at the "Heroin Is Good For You" chatroom. Of course, those junkies just had to go invite their friends at "All Night Hardons" and "My Vagina Is An Open House" group pages. Sorry.

He's a national treasure. But Coltrane owns that particular ditty, IMO.

You are right of course. Even as I wrote it I thought I might be mixing up my Jazz men. Coltrane was the one who turned My Favorite Things into a masterwork. I don't think Coleman even did that piece.
