Crazy. I thought Old Navy would work for most places. The clothes are pretty good for covering a wide range of styles.
They have at least 10 here in Salt Lake valley, including building a new one at The Gateway. The older downtown store closed 4 years ago due to lack of interest (which is what is happening to downtown SLC lately) |

major congrats, ehle. I'm going back to the gym this next week due to most of my pants not fitting. Had to buy all new shorts this summer (kept a few around as an incentive to lose my middle). |

We are also Gap-less and Banana Republic-less. The company must have overexpanded.
Soon we will be just one giant Wally World. |

Too bad we've lost the whole regional beer thing - Miss Rheingold (sp), etc. And Coors (Rocky Mtn. Koolaid) doesn't count.
Don't be blinded by the dominance of crappy mega-beers.
This is the golden age of micro-brews.
Especially on the West Coast. Oregon and Cali have an unreal number of locally produced beers. In Portland, most of the pubs carry these, so you can drink locally crafted porters and stouts and brown ales on tap.
But go into any good liquor store and they will carry a few locally made beers. My favorite west coast beer is Anchor Steam. Our locally produced beeres - at leat the ones I've had - don't measure up. |

For what it's worth, essentially every item of clothes I own, except shoes and most of my suits? T. J. Maxx. |

Re: sweatshops and globalization.
Many things American consumers buy come from China. China has more millionnaires (sp) than the U.S. (due to its huge population).
About 6 yrs. ago I noticed, while traveling, that a lot of "upscale" clothing for sale in Latin America (Brazil & Chile, esp.) came from South Korea.
In any case, S. Korea can't be considered 3rd world these days. Shanghai is the only 21st century city I've seen. Brazil isn't really 3rd world anymore either. And neither is India, the world's largest democracy.
And for what it's worth, Neiman-Marcus has now out-sourced its order dept. to CANADA!! Nothing like a classy Canadian accent, right?
Canadians give good phone.

Ehle -- your Old Navy thing makes sense, then. I was sort of joking. Sort of. And congratulations. You've lost an entire 8 year old!
Syd -- they don't put bullseyes on the polo shirts or madras shirts, AFAICT. Just on the bag, and you scrunch it up and hide it in an empty can of peas or something so no one will know. |

Whisky -- TJ Maxx has some good deals. I've bought a couple "irregulars" there for really cheap, and the irregularity was something only a trained seamstress would ever detect. |

Wade - Weight to go!
I bought most of my jeans at Old Navy. I like the place, although I've lost my kids four or five times there. |
