I'm in favour of ads like the ones gromit describes. I know how my finances have been crushed in the last six months so I'm sure others who were not in a position to worry much about the dues in the past have also taken a big hit. |

Though I appreciate the fact that Bobby Kennedy's assassination was a genuine tragedy, and even suspect he would have made a very good president, I was never a Kennedy fanatic--even JFK--and found Bobby to have a too-brash, too-narcissistic personality for my taste. I never felt one-thousandth the feeling for him that I do for Barack Obama. |

Good to hear from gromit and Gary about their opinions on ads. I have given much thought to the matter since last year and have found any number of sites which feature discreet ads.
I'm in favor of discreet ads and have confidence in Lorne, etc. to ad them to our site in such a way that they are not disruptive. And ANYTHING to avoid all the carping. We had enough trouble with this when the economy was flush...what will it be like now? |

I wasn't even thinking of that, but you're right. Two of my stocks have gone in to extreme meltdown, while another pair had good 3Q results and would have gone up under normal conditions, but couldn't get any traction in this financial bloodbath.
Here's a film site with some simple ads lining the bottom of the page, barely noticeable.

Maybe others have other examples.
I seem to remember Lady W. providing a link to a sample site with ads(?) |

chilly posted some sites.
Yeah - Gary and gromit, I'm in meltdown mode myself. I just hope it doesn't get worse. |

Odd. We all saw his picture on one of the avatars, and he wasn't THAT young. carrobin would know, I guess. |

I started out thinking Seagull was a troll then retracted my position. He was touchy, he wouldn't let an argument go, he had to have the last word. In other words, he fit right in. But he's gone and what the majority around here wants is the way it should be, so I won't argue the point. |

I agree. The examples of such ads we looked at a few months ago were discreet, and I think we can live with that. |

Thanks, Lorne. I think you made the right decision. He was given every possible chance to continue here, and he finally just blew it. Someone who only comes here only to try to bait people and pick arguments just doesn't belong. |

I really meant to have just one "only" in that last sentence. |

The internet is full of ugly, scapping forums, I'm sure Seagull will find one where he feels more at home.
I don't now what type of force Marc Campbell is or even if he's a force for the good, but there's no denying that he is a force. |
