Thanks, Lorne. And I'm sorry I was snarky. You're the best. |

That said, one of the reasons I can't join the seagull lynch mob is that I have felt dissed in the same way several times during the past year. My earlier-than-most and more-enthusiastic-than-any support for Barack Obama was greeted with contempt and occasional viciousness, to the point where I very nearly absented myself from this forum. I know firsthand how angry this group can get when challenged. Now that my opinion of Obama has been pretty much authenticated in the national mindset, the nastiness has abated, but those who were part of it know who you are, and seagull was never one of them. Whatever. |

I feel dissed all the time - really. Although billy, I do understand your point. |

Lorne,
I know its never easy to make a judgment call regarding someone's posting privileges. In this case, you did the right thing. seagull's negatives far outweighed anything productive he brought to these forums. |

Billy, I think it was your over the top vilification of Clinton and anyone else who challenged Obama that was the cause of those contentious posts, not your enthusiastic support of Obama. |

P.S. I should have put this in my prior post. A referrance to the "seagull lynch mob" is really inaccurrate - even in jest. Lorne did a masterful job of summing up the situation.
My thoughts are that seagull could possibly be lurking. I hate the idea of providing any supposed 'justification' (even if it's not) to a person who seemed to have a lot of issues.
I mean this positively, btw. |

For whatever it's worth (and I've expressed my later admiration for Hillary's--if not Bill's--part in the Obama campaign), I still feel Hillary and Bill were obnoxious and borderline racist during the primary. If I had to do it all over again, I would do it. |

Just skimmed thru this zone.
My take:
I'm glad we banned Lorne, as there were too many Canadians here, and he never showed up or shared his porn stash anyway. |

billy,
I appreciate your enthusiasm for Obama. Its been a very long time since I had
the feeling that a politician might actually make a difference. Obama is the man. And McCain is running possibly the worst campaign in history. And yet, the race is still too tight for comfort. Though, I predict a small landslide for Obama.
Read THE LAST CAMPAIGN. Its about the 82 days that Bobby Kennedy ran for the Presidency. Its a heart breaker. |

I was just thinking of Bobby Kennedy this morning and how that assassination most probably kept the US in such a sorry state as far as wars, international respect, and some very pathetic leadership, and that maybe Obama after some forty years would achieve what I think Bobby would have. |

As for seagull, I found him annoying and obnoxious, seemingly coming from that older (read: younger) internet, where anonymous people insult each other and act brash.
It's a shame, because I do think we seriously could use new members. But really, Seagull didn't talk much about film, mostly picked fights and reveled in insults, while the majority of his posts were fairly incoherent.
My shorthand description of a typical seagull post was that he "dropped the puck at Phillies game."
===============================
Since I rarely look back here, let me take this opportunity to ask about adding discreet ads at the bottom of the site in order to pay for this place. If anyone is worried about how that would work, I can direct you to another site I use, where I didn't even notice the ads until people started talking about some amusing choices (the ads change according to key words posted, and sometimes the relationship is amusing).
Can we do this, or at least start endlessly discussing doing this, before the next payment is due (in December, I think). I seem to remember before that many were willing to give ads a go.
PS. I hate ads, and it's one of the reasons I don't watch Tv or read magazines. I hate the imposition of Tv's with ads in elevators and other such places. But I think it's acceptable here, in limited form, to cover the costs. |

I think it is going to be a rout. And despite what any of the poll takers or commentators mght be saying, if it is close, there is no other reason than racism. There is no comparison between the two candidates or the two campaigns, or the status of the Parties in the public's mind.
My predictions about the Canadian election were off. Not far off, but off enough for me to start doubting my ability to read the public's leanings. So if it's not a rout, I'm going to have more doubts. I'm giving luke warm racists credit for thinking of who is a better president for them, rather than what race he is. They better not fuck up my prediction. |
