The Glee Cast had seven songs debut in the Hot 100 in the same week. I think they're all from the Original Song show. The biggest were "Loser Like Me" at #6 and "Get it Right" at #16. I suspect these are all downloads. Sadly, "Big Ass Heart" isn't one of the seven.
"Landslide" from the previous show is still on the charts, so Gwyneth Paltrow's musical career continues. |

| Sadly and disappointing, Criminal Minds Suspect Behavior carries on the tradition of its predecessor, being a disgusting display for the twisted lovers of sadistic porn. Gave it another try recently and had to shut it off about 7 minutes in. Seems like it uses I Spit On Your Grave as a model. |

I'm pretty well done with forensic drama on the tube. Nytempsperdu, formerly of the NYTFF, refers to such shows as "people are meat" tv. That said, I wouldn't mind giving Forrest Whitaker a second chance, as I've only seen the pilot of CM:SB.
BTW, fans of "Bones" (the shining exception to my no-crime tv diet) will want to pay attention about 70 minutes or so into "The Lincoln Lawyer," where a familiar face appears. The "Guido" episode re-ran last night -- very amusing one, with Tempe framing herself as an anthropologist observing the strange customs of the Jersey shore. |

| "Bones" and "30 Rock" are among my top five favorite shows--the latter was hilarious last night, with Jack about to cancel Liz's show and everyone going to their various "Plan Bs" (one employee had a side job starring in a show about a psychic who helps the cops in Scandinavia), and a repeat of "Bones" is more welcome than most new shows of its type. |

Word to the Mother Ship. The other night's episode, dealing with a gruesome case where the killer hangs people in front of the corpse of his sister, which he carts around in his car from murder site to murder site, will be my last venture into this repellent world. I'm glad at least that Forest Whitaker is collecting a paycheck. He's one of my favorites, but even he can't make this wretched show watchable. |

The whole passion for autopsy shows puzzles me, though I've heard that they've increased young people's interest in science, which is good. I watch "Bones" and occasionally "NCIS," but for reasons other than the grisly close-ups, which I could happily do without. It's a little bit worrying that the CSI-type and gruesome-murder shows are so popular.
P.S. "Law & Order: UK" on the BBC America channel is a good show, but our "Law & Order" was better. The UK version is usually more like "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," as well, with rape and other sexual violence. Seems like London is more like New York than I want to believe. |

I can't be eating anything when Bones is on. I do sort of enjoy when they find humor in the gross -- e.g. the aforementioned "Guido" episode, where the maggots are leaping into the air from the rotting corpse because they are hopped up on some energy drink the deceased had been guzzling.
But, yeah, mostly I'd be fine with a more Hitchcockian reverse shot, where we just see the forensic team looking down at the remains and reacting to them.
I'm not sure how much the grisly stuff factors into the popularity of such shows. Human nature seems to encompass a certain fascination with the gross, that impulse that sometimes makes one look at a terrible accident even when you would rather not. Does it desensitize? Maybe. Or maybe we are mostly pretty secure in our knowledge that we are looking at latex with various gelatin-like compounds. |

| I think people these days are more comfortable with violence than they were in years past, but reading the Sansom murder mysteries set in Henry VIII's England reminds me that people used to crowd around beheadings and burnings and draw-and-quarterings with the same enthusiasm that we watch TV. So maybe humans haven't really changed that much (for better or worse). |

I've always wondered about the same thing. Whether it's here with shows like Criminal Minds, or 16th century be-headings. Here on RCN, CM is shown almost all day on one channel.
