Apologies for sleeping in. It's just not the Blanches without me getting into a punch-up with Russell Crowe or having a 3some with Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman. Sorry to have let the team down.

None of those three were here this year, so you were in the clear.

Truth be told I was avoiding George Clooney, to whom I owe money. Don't be fooled, he's a mean mother-

Oh shit here he comes!

Just got back from an Oscar party, and can itemize the Best Picture votes. It was the closest race I can remember. In fact, I want to know what movie Kate voted for. It had to be either Michael Clayton or NCFOM. I didn't get her vote or Nancy's in time, but if--if--Kate's vote was for NCFOM and if--if--Nancy's vote for TWBB had been received in time, we would have had a four-way tie for Best Picture. If, on the other had, Kate had voted for MC, then the winner would have been MC all by itself. As it was, the vote was:

Michael Clayton - 4
Zodiac - 4
NCFOM - 3
TWBB - 3
EP - 2

Bottom line: great awards show, great presentation, and...

Tilda and Marion rock the Blanches and the Oscars! Brava to both!!!

My vote was for Blood and you didn't get it in time.

Sorry, I meant Betsy, not Nancy. Nancy had already voted, for NCFOM.

A great show ends with a tie and a vote scandal.
Now that's entertainment.

Not enough entertainment to actually get up at 6:AM and participate mind you.

Glad 4,3,2 won -- I didn't think enough peeps and posts had seen it.
I thought Black Book was allright, but prefer Army of Shadows (a 2007 Dvd release).
I think Lives of Others suffered by falling into the crack between last year's Oscars and this year's Blanche-a-rini.

In the 100-pound category, I was impressed fo shizz with Ellen Page, but can appreciate Cotillard's win, mess though that film was.

At least by the time of the Blanches (or at least by the time I caught the re-broadcast just now), I had caught up with most of the nominees ... except Will be Blood (wasn't there enough in Sweeney Todd?), The Savages (which I still know nothing, nothing about), and Before the Devil Knows (I think I just forgot to pick this up).

So was the Assassination of JJ shut out of Blanche finalists? I haven't hitched my eyes to that film yet, and thought it had some backers around these parts.

We could use a post summarizing the Winners. Now on to a quick glance of Oscar results...

Screenplay finalists:

Adapted:
No Country for Old Men 9
Zodiac 5
Away from Her 2
Charlie Wilson's War, 1
Into the Wild 1
Abstentions 1

Original
Michael Clayton 8
Juno 5
The Savages, 3
The Lives of Others 2
Eastern Promises 1

I'm surprised we got more votes for screenplay than best picture. Are you sure you got all the votes?

It must be a first. All four acting Oscars went to foreigners!

Best supporting actress votes:

Tilda Swinton - lots
Imelda Stanton - a few
Everyone else - hardly any

What's really a first is that Best Actress was won by an actress in a foriegn language film! Or maybe not. Sophia Loren won for Ciociara, La (1960) also known as Two Women. Though I can't remember if it was in English or not.

Some voters changed their minds when it came to the recount for Best Actor. But it didn't really matter since in both Wade's and my tallies, Viggo won by a country mile. And by the same amount of votes.
