Rod,

What's the logic behind limiting yourself to one film per director? If the priority was to pay homage to 50 great directors, then fine, but we're assessing the best overall package, the films, regardless of who directed them, acted in them or composed the score.

You, Lorne, can make your list how you see fit. I will make mine as I see fit.

I always enjoy finding out what people were thinking when they come up with these lists. Thanks for so clearly enlightening me as to where your head was at.

Also, thanks for the encouraging word about my own list. I've been real busy but I do appreciate the support.

Marj, as I was going through your list I was just about finished and I was thinking, "I don't have any big argument with your choices (well maybe Sleepless in Seattle) then, second from the bottom, Marjorie Morningstar???? It has to be a New York name connection thing. What a dull movie. Mind you I've heard that the book was even duller.

Oh, I knew someone would pick up on that. But this is supposed to be a list of personal favorites and Marjorie Morningstar is a favorite of mine due to very personal reasons.

An interesting choice - did you love those leather pants Melanie Griffith wore while dancing to Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax?

If you consider that the sum of the parts might be greater than the whole...

I'd like to nominate ALL the versions of "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" (as one choice).

I know - it's not possible, but it's one of those stories that has always made for interesting remakes.
--------------------------

All the versions of "Imitation of Life" and "A Star is Born" come close.

They came close for me as well, Mo But only the original Imitation of Life, though.

My problem is whether to do Dekalog as a single entity, because if I do, it will be #1.

This is a movie I forgot to put on my list. It definitely belongs there.

Some of the "Dekalog" stories were longer TV shows with basically the same plots. I've forgotten all the details now. I should check out the imdb.com .

"The Kingdom" by von Trier was another TV show released here as a movie - pretty amazing...and definitely my favorite von Trier.
