We all speak in cliches, they are a useful tool for the linguistically challenged like myself, the trick is too pick those that don't sound too tired. It's just a question of horses for courses...damn!

At the same time, I do not think it's too much to ask the merchant to cut a loyal, longtime customer some slack.

Absolutely.

Both amazon.com and the imdb.com have some pretty interesting comments about "Zodiac's" lack of extras.

On amazon.com the general consensus seems to be anger at another case of a studio's "double-dipping."

On the imdb.com , one viewer proudly states that he finds movie extras "masturbatory [!]!

Very Happy

I think what Marc says makes perfect sense. I have a love/hate relationship to the DVD bells and whistles. I love that Lynch doesn't put extras or a commentary track on his DVDs...even if I wish he'd explain what his intentions were somewhere.

DVDs are to movies what Norton Anthology editions are to novels.

I may be displaying my ignorance here, but I get the impression that versions of films intended for the rental market often come on extras light DVDs.

DVDs for the rental market and the retail market are exactly the same.

That's not always true. I've rented several "rental versions" of movies where the second, special features dvd wasn't included. This has only been my experience at Blockbuster or other chains, not non-corporate stores. Studios probably offer special bulk deals on double-discers to save money.

I'm happy to see that at least the "other" rental store is town is marking FULL SCREEN or WIDE SCREEN on the cases...as if anyone would actually prefer "full screen."

(I guess I'd prefer it if I had a 5" screen.)

That goes without saying! I didn't think I needed to say that to the 3rd Eye crowd. Marc's dvd's are in the correct aspect ratio and uncut. He does not offer a "dumbed down" product.

IMO Marc's N-side store is doing well. Biz seems steady - dvd renters, snackers, & the construction guys who want a caffeine buzz, etc.

Plus the ice cream freaks who come to buy the best packaged sorbets or gelatos in town or newshounds who want to buy the NYT.

Laptoppers can use computers, and readers can browse thru the loaner mags.

I kick myself in the ass for not going by his place when I was within thirty miles of Taos last year. (He and I weren't getting along at the time.) I had my own business for thirty-two years, and this man is one hell of an entrepreneur.

Hey yambu...

Where in the world were you that was within 30 mi. of Taos? Even Espanola is farther than that.

Angel Fire??

(The N-side Mondo even has a sign!)

I was in Espanola last May, to look at part of a large probate estate I was handling here in California, and to consult with a Santa Fe law firm. Right after I returned, I had my stroke, and had to give that lucrative file to someone else. But beautiful country, that. I posted about it at the time. You had even recommended a restaurant or two, I think. Anyway, I better stop now, before Wade has a cow.

That's right...it's easy to have a cow in Taos.

Laughing

(sorry, Wade)

Finally, I have gotten a copy of Zodiac. Even after it came out on DVD Netflix couldn't fill the orders fast enough. I had to wait over a week, which is highly unusual.

I will return with thoughts etc. after my viewing. I am so excited!!!
