Best musical moments in film?

Ooops! In case you were wandering, I meant to post this in the Lobby.

Lady,

I wouldn't rule out Pan's Labyrinth beating Volver to the Oscar; it picked up more BAFTA nominations than any other foreign film - so it's not without its supporters. Being the more recent of the two may also help it.

Pan was probably the best-reviewed movie of the whole year--something I can't quite understand, but it certainly bodes well for the Oscar.

Tried to watch Volver last night, but the English sub-titles were from some other movie dealing with espionage. Amusing for about 5 minutes. Just got a new, hopefully improved, copy today. I didn't realize Water was 2006. Now I'll have to watch that as well.

Saw Enfant, L' (2006) aka The Child last night (instead of Volver). A well-made Belgian film from the highly regarded Dardennes Bros. (Rosetta). A slice-of-life film about a petty thief/slacker twenty-something year-old who has considerable trouble dealing with adulthood (and his new fatherhood). Well worth viewing. A certain humanism, integrity and look, allowed it to accomplish what The Death of Mr. Lazarescu tried to deliver. Now I'll have to unearth Rosetta out of an older to-watch pile.

I've seen both of those (actually, everything you've mentioned in that post). I thought that Lazarescu was excellent, that L'Enfant was excellent, but I wouldn't really compare the two. Plus I'd say that the lack of humanism is more evident in L'Enfant, because it's focused much more in one person than it is in Lazarescu.

But that's just what I'd say.

is there a site that can tell you if a screenplay is original or adapted?

Is this one of those things I can add to my voice mail greeting? Now that could be cool....

Lshap, mai plaisir. At least with Blanche tabulations, it'll be frisky and interesting. Am convinced my colleagues in the local dramatical association have lost their minds, but that's another story, never mind, anyway...

D'accord. The Jérémie Renier/Déborah François connection slew me as much as the Ryan Gosling/Shareeka Epps connection in Half Nelson did, if not more. Bruno, Bruno, Bruno, Sonia, Sonia, Sonia, et petit Jimmy, sacre bleu. Magnifique.
