Finally watched "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," which I rather liked. Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris) wants desperately to join the Evil League of Evil, but needs to do a dastardly deed to qualify. Unfortunately, he's actually rather a nice guy who is too shy to talk to the girl he's in love with. Oh, and he wants to rule the world. It doesn't occur to him to run for election. Hell, I'd vote for him.

It's also a musical. Harris and Felicia Day have some problems, but Nathan Fillion (Mac from "Firefly" and "Serenity") is surprisingly good and has the best songs.

My only complaint is that it's only 42 minutes long and feels a little cramped. I would love to see the further adventures of Dr. Horrible.

PS: If you're going to announce your dastardly deeds on the blog, do it after you've actually accomplished them. Thanks for the lesson. I want my death ray to be a surprise.

You had me at Nathan Fillion singing. I don't know why anyone needs to put "suprisingly" in front of "good" where he is concerned.

I wasn't clear on how one obtains this video, but they got a thing called the Internet now, so I guess I can find it.

Yesterday was Fillion's 40th birthday. Not at all sure what Syd did again.
In-joke?

If there's a ray weapon of any type in a Joss Whedon film, that IS a surprise, given his past policy on ray guns.

.
The German movie Soul Kitchen (2009) is the work of Turko-German director Fatih Akin (I loved his Head-on and The Edge of Heaven). It is a romantic comedy about two Greek brothers in Hamburg, one a restauranter, the other a thief, and their misadventures. Enjoyable.

When I saw that title, a Greek restauranteur living in Germany was not what first came to mind. Interesting what happens when translators are brought in.

The restaurant in the movie is in fact called "Soul Kitchen".

So, spanikopita with pork ribs, black-eyed peas and collard greens, then?
(sorry)

Watched half of The Secret in their Eyes last night, which was frustrating because it's quite gripping. Will finish tonight and report back.

I'll put in another vote for "Dr. Horrible," as well as for the original "Arthur." I was always a fan of Dudley Moore, and there were moments in that film that really cracked me up. The sequel was a bore because he had sobered up--a morally unfortunate (but predictable) situation. Also, there was the John Gielgud conundrum, which was also predictable but somehow overlooked (like the Alan Rickman problem in "Die Hard"--don't these producers ever anticipate sequels?). I'd like to see the new "Arthur" because of the cast, and also to see whether the comedy works without the hero's drinking problem, which I'm assuming is not a basic plot point this time.

Thought it was a real crappy film in many ways.
