We use the word TELEPLAY a lot, so why not CINEPLAY? I like to call The Queen a cineplay, but I do not exactly know why.
Both worthy - but The Grifters was a masterpiece (IMHO) |

Much agreed.
Also can't wait to discuss HIGH FIDELITY, which was another Frears favorite of mine. |

Being the benevolent despot that I am, let me know what you people would like to discuss next. Then we can go on from there. I think that Wade posting all those reviews that we had already written about The Queen has taken a lot of steam out of this subject. But I'm glad he did. |

That said, I think this movie was the best shot of any Frears I've seen. And he's damn good with the camera. |

well I know there was a lot of complaints about Julia Roberts performance in Mary Reilly - but I don't recall what so awful about it except for the first (and only I think) time her character was sort of drab, mousy, quiet - very against type for her. I ahven't seen the film in a while - I do recall Glen Close hamming it up (and well) playing this scarily unattractive madam/prostitute with a very pronounced english accent |

On looking at his filmography I was surprised to find that the vast majority of his work was for TV. The Queen was also supposed to be for TV. |

I only caught about the last 20 minutes of Mary Reilly. That was about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I thought it was awful. Roberts didn't bother me. |

I think Mary Reilly and some of the more obscure British Television programs are the only things left that I haven't seen by Frears. I'll watch it, though.
Personal favorites: Prick Up Your Ears; My Beautiful Launderette; The Grifters
Really like: Dangerous Liaisions; Dirty Pretty Things; High Fidelity |

Yes, Dirty Pretty Things and Grifters were excellent movies, and among his best. |
