| If someone wants to change their vote before midnight on Monday, they must enter another post stating the decision. After Monday there will be no changes made. This applies to Supporting Actor. Don't know what sioux wants to do about Supporting Person Playing a Female Role. |

I, personally, would consider Scarlett Johansson the leading actress in Match Point, no matter what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association says. She's certainly just as integral to the story as Jonathan Rhys-Meyers.

IMO: everyone in Match Point except Rhys Meyers has a supporting role. The movie centers around one character.
In Brokeback Mountain, however, to say that Jake Gyllenhaal is in support of Heath Ledger changes the entire structure of the movie. It is the story of two men, not one man. Both men are leads, and to say otherwise is perverse.
Patricia Neal won the Oscar for Hud in what was a supporting role. Everyone supported Paul Newman. However, in Ordinary People, Timothy Hutton won the supporting actor Oscar for what was the leading role. These inconsistencies are part and parcel of the Oscars and arguably the single most annoying thing about the whole affair. |

Every year I am sent into a panic by Blanche nominations- I haven't seen everything yet!!!!!
Look, I confess, I haven't dusted off my spreadsheet yet, so I'll be working off of the posts that are current right now...actually my plan is to begin my count on Sunday. Having said that......editing on the Blanches is chaos personified. If you edit your post you do it at your own risk. My advice is to post your nominees when you are confident of those nominees and stick with that post. I am going to count the posts I see, and that's it (and due to a controversey the last time I counted blanches, I will eventually post my nominees). |

So is this pronounced "Glow-bear," like you're a Care Bear (worst bears ever!), or similar to how our President pronounces "nuclear," as in "glob-u-lar?"
I never vote for the Blanches because I never see anything in time, so instead, I'd like to nominate my short list for "Best Bears Ever:"
1. Smokey, preventer of forest fires, drier of eyes of crying Indians
2. Winnie the Pooh, has his own fucking Tao. Top that, Brier fucking Rabbit.
3. Mike Ditka, stupider than most regular bears, but much better hands and can block on running plays.
4. That bear that eats that obsessed bear guy in that documentary about a guy who just won't leave bears the fuck alone.
5. Walter Matthau, reluctant king of "Bad News" breed.
6. "Sparky" Bad Taste Bear. He's like a Care Bear, but he picks his nose and is tied to an electric chair, convicted of crimes not explicitly stated.
7. Yogi Bear, wanton pilferer of picnic baskets, arch-nemesis of one befuddled park ranger.
8. Any polar bear. Those guys are fucking cool. Except those fucking Coca Cola Bears. What the fuck is that? Eat a penguin, idiot!
9. Anna Nicole Smith, prettiest bear I ever saw.
10. "Gropey" Bad Taste Bear. From the same family is Sparky, Gropey pretty much just stands around with his hand in his pants.
11. Paul "Bear" Bryant. Possibly the greatest college football coach ever.
12. That bear from Legends of the Fall. Could have shaved an hour off the movie by killing the whole damn family except for the Indian.
And yes, I know all about the Berenstein Bears and those bears in the Country Jug Band that plays at Chuck E. Cheese. They all suck. |
