Arbuckle clearly rivaled Chaplin in his heyday. But the Virignia Rappe scandal came right before the release of his first feature;

Just a slight correction - Arbuckle starred in eight features before the scandal. Wink

Yep, but I thought nothing was actually released before the Labor Day party, and that some of them ended up being released in Europe only in an attempt to recoup some money.

Just like there are Beatles fans and then there are Stones fans, there are Chaplin fans and then there are Keaton fans. I guess it's not an either/or proposition, Chaplin vs Keaton, but we all have our preferences.

Chaplin is my favorite - but I also adore Keaton. I love The Beatles - but also enjoy (some of) The Stones. Cool

I'm a Keaton fan. This doesn't mean that Chaplin fans should be exsanguinated and then flattened by road-grading equipment, but the idea has its attractive aspects.

Actually their is a partcularly brutal episode of "Celebrity Deathmatch" with Chaplin vs. Keaton. What you describe above is performed on Chaplin by Keaton and THEN SOME. Exclamation It's VERY clear who the clamation creators of this program preffered Twisted Evil

By the way....I'll take the banning comment as a compliment Very Happy I'm not trying to be a know it all....just generous with what info I have to interested parties. Believe me their is a PLETHORA of stuff I don't know within my passionatly chosen field of interest. Live (experience) and learn. :wink

Tirebiter is our resident court jester and certainly meant it as a compliment. We all feel fortunate to have you here.

I have switched allegiances. I used to be a Keaton fan, but now I definitely prefer Chaplin. Maybe it has to do with the aging process, but I enjoy the very elemental nature of Chaplin's work. While both actors/directors were very physical, I appreciate the grace of Chaplin more. Keaton is a rough house, as is Lloyd.

I was thinking this morning of you as an archivist, in love with his work and finding a new group to share this with, I'm surprised you haven't exploded just from shear relief Smile

With the outtakes - I found the meeting with the father ("The Man") to be the one I'd like to see put back into the movie. It filled out the character much more and I think added a little something extra. But it (obviously) doesn't have to be in the film for the film to work.

Again - if one can get a hold of it on DVD - try watching it uncut. (btw LadyW if you like I'll loan it to you.) Smile

Okay - you've got my firstborn! %^}

But, but, I haven't even got my copy of The Kid, yet. Has it been a full week? At least I have The General here somewhere.

Don't think so. Call Matt and ask him to give it to Eleanora to bring over tonight.

Not a full week, and it doesn't mean you can't talk about The Kid after today, but we have two movies this week, e-meister.
